djsteviec Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 I have a Martin MAC 250 and 918 at a venue that I work in and I have a few errors coming up. I was wondering if anyone could help me. MAC 250 Gobo ErrorMAC 250 Colour Error* I gave them a clean the other day and when I removed the top cover I found that one of the push/pull clips for the colour wheel/gobo wheel module was missing. I will be going up to the venue again next week with new pins and hopefully it will sove the problem, but in case it don't, is there anything else that anyone could suggest that might be the problem that I can look for while its down from the rig? ** I have checked the magnet on each wheel and they are both present, but is there a test that I can do to make sure that both the magnet and sensor are both working? *** On reset, when the wheels are spinning to 'zero' themselves, should they stop when the magnet and sensor become aligned? If so, this will answer the previous question. MAC 250 Pan Error**** I know that there is a switch inside the base unit of the MAC to govern when the head has yoked to its full axis, how do I go about testing it to see if it is this that is faulty, and if it is not that, what else could it be? 918 Colour Wheel Motor FAILEDThe colout wheel has failed in our 918, I will be ordering a new one today and fitting it next week. Can anyone offer any advice from past experience with these as there ain't much room inside these fellas. All comments and advice greatly appreciated. Steve.
Matt Cowles Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Please see my responses below, if you get stuck please call our service department on (01622) 755442 they will talk you through it all. If so, this will answer the previous question. You can short out the two outside pins of the sensor when the unit is resetting. (it is a good idea to freeze pan and tilt when you are doing this by pressing Menu+Enter together when you power the unit on.) If the wheel stops spinning when you short these pins you know that the wireset and the main PCB is OK. Another thing you can do is trigger the sensor with a magnetic screwdriver, again if the wheel stops you know that the sensor, the wireset and the PCB are OK. This leaves the wheel alignment, firstly make sure that the sensor is not too far away from the magnet. To check the alignment, power up the unit and let if finish resetting. Then move the wheel round manually until the magnet is directly below the sensor, you should feel the wheel move in steps, if the magnet does not sit directly under the sensor on a step then it needs to be re-aligned by loosening the grub screws on the wheel, adjusting and then re-tightening. MAC 250 Pan Error**** I know that there is a switch inside the base unit of the MAC to govern when the head has yoked to its full axis, how do I go about testing it to see if it is this that is faulty, and if it is not that, what else could it be? This is a very simple circuit of a metal prong that hits a micro switch. Firstly make sure the switch is being aticvated by the pan, when you move the head with out power to its end stop you should hear the click of the micro switch. If not then you may need to adjust the position of the micro switch, somtimes the bracket that the switch is screwed to can slip. If the swtich is being activated, trace the wireset back to the main PCB (it will be a four pole wireset 2 wires for the tilt switch and 2 for the pan) Do a continuity test on the two wires for the pan with the switch closed. I suspect that you will have a wireset problem so you will not get continuity, if this is the case you can double check that it is the wireset by testing for continuity at the switch itself by putting your probe on the pins of the micro switch and closing the switch. If you get continuity at the switch and not at the PCB then you have a wireset problem, if there is no continuity at the switch then you have a switch problem. 918 Colour Wheel Motor FAILEDThe colout wheel has failed in our 918, I will be ordering a new one today and fitting it next week. As for this one, take the colour module out of the unit to give you all the room you need to work with, it is a very simple module to remove but remember to make a note of where all of the wiresets plug in. Also be careful when removing the colour wheel from the faulty motor you do not want to break a dichroic...they are not cheap. hth
djsteviec Posted February 23, 2009 Author Posted February 23, 2009 Thank you so much Matt. I'm just about to print that out and take it with me in the week. Ill post how I got on. Thanks again.Steve.
