pinkros
I'm in the Nexus Art Cafe in Manchester and attempting to get osme lighting from a Behringer 2412 desk. There are numerous and bizarre problems, not least of which is 2 lights are on, even when the desk is off! The desk seems to have no bearing on what is on in the rig, the sockets are labelled S1, S2, D4, D7, 54, 55, 56 1, 3, allsorts really. I took a look at the desk, and there's no DMX cable plugged in, just an 'analogue cable' but I have no idea what it does. I've downloaded a manual (there's not one at the venue) but at this point it can't really help. The lighting itself has 5 amp plugs on it, and at this point I'm ready to give up. I wish I knew more to tell, but it's just way beyond my knowledge. If any one is in Manchester and fancies a look at this bizarre set up, just come on down!Any help/advice, I'm hanging on your every word. pinkros
pritch
Well, if there are lights on when the desk is off, then I think we need to know a bit more about what else you've got there. What sort of dimmers are they? Is there any extra control in the place, apart from the Behringer? Maybe some local controls on the dimmers themselves? Try removing all control cables from the back of the dimmers - does anything stay on then? If so, you're probably looking at a dimmer fault, rather than a problem with the desk. Russ83
I'd find the dimmers and ascertain if they are analogue or DMX for starters. Here's a scenario I've come across before:Symptoms as you have describedDesk wasn't responding so someone found an analogue cable, still nothingAbandoned desk so messed with dimmers and got a few channels onto test mode, hey presto some lightAll is fine until next person come along and has to unfathom all this. This may not be your problem but thought I'd mention it. Check for dimmers on test anyhow.
pinkros
I hunted high and low for the dimmers - literally - and they're up on the ceiling in the middle of the cafe.... and the ladder is too short to even get a proper look at them! We're giving up for tonight, possibly going to try lamps plugged in to regular sockets and just ditch the desk. It's been truly awful! thanks for your quick responses xx
cliveybaby
If its that desk chances are dimmer are a cheap also Possibly blown a couple of triacs wich will make the channel stay onno matter what you do from the control side unplug all control turn on packs if lights are on be quite sure it will be failed triacs Cliveybaby
dmxlights
It is not the desk. It is the dimers as some of the others have said the easy way prove this is unplug the cable from back of the desk and see if the lights are still on. I also think the person that replaced the desk took a easy way out and used the analog out of the desk to save him having to run cable or saving him having to fit new dimmers.
