P. Funk Posted May 30, 2004 Posted May 30, 2004 I cant say much about lifespans of mutltools.. but I've had my leatherman Wave for a while and ts great! Well worth the £56 + VAT & delivery I paid for it...
robloxley Posted May 30, 2004 Posted May 30, 2004 Which are decent and dont break easily!!And not too expensive Pick any two...
smeggie Posted May 31, 2004 Posted May 31, 2004 gerbers - sweeeeet as.quality tools in a good and easy to handle case.leathermans are a close second imho, purely because I havent had one yet.cheers[ps. the pick any 2 is true]
Bryson Posted May 31, 2004 Posted May 31, 2004 The new Gerber Legend is not recommended: I've had problems with mine and have actually gone back to the old-style gerber.
danyoung Posted May 31, 2004 Posted May 31, 2004 I've had my leatherman Wave for a while and ts great! Well worth the £56 + VAT & delivery I paid for it...Last time I looked into a Letherman Wave it was going to cost the best part of £100! Where did you acquire yours from?
P. Funk Posted May 31, 2004 Posted May 31, 2004 LX store all products have 10% off what they are marked as, so that takes it down to £56. then you have to pay VAT on the £56, and delivery (always £5) which takes it to about £70 I think.
RoyF18 Posted May 31, 2004 Posted May 31, 2004 Thumbs up for the Leatherman - seen them take some abuse and not complain.
Dazzler Posted May 31, 2004 Posted May 31, 2004 Go for the old style gerber. It is by far the best if you want something that you can use one handed.
robloxley Posted May 31, 2004 Posted May 31, 2004 Well Flints have the Leatherman Wave for £55+ Vat.If you look on ebay you can pick up a new PST for <£20 or a Supertool for <£30
boac Posted June 1, 2004 Posted June 1, 2004 I can recommend the Wave. If you do manage to break it you can send it off to be repaired under the 25 year warranty. After a lot of abuse mine wasn't as sharp as it used to be (but otherwise fine). I sent it off and after just a week I received not a repaired Leatherman but a brand shiny new one. All it cost me was £2.50 p&p and I didn't even have to show them a receipt. Now that's service! :P The new Leatherman Charge Xti looks pretty good too, but won't be the cheapest.
TomLyall Posted June 1, 2004 Posted June 1, 2004 boac, you can send them off cus its blunt? im just glad I went with a wave, should arrive tommorrow morning if royal mail get their act together :P
James Posted June 1, 2004 Posted June 1, 2004 boac, you can send them off cus its blunt? im just glad I went with a wave, should arrive tommorrow morning if royal mail get their act together :P I did - it had other problems as well but that was one of the things I mentioned and one of the things they fixed. James
boac Posted June 4, 2004 Posted June 4, 2004 yup. the blades were getting slightly stiff to get out and bits that were meant to be stiff were beginning to work slightly loose but there was nothing actually broken about it, just a little blunt. I don't think I even specified what I wanted fixing, just sent it off for "a service" and got a brand new one in a week. very chuffed  another little tip, dunno if you can do this with any of the other tools aswell. When tightening/untightening wing bolts open up your leatherman and use the slot inside where the cross head screwdriver bit and bottle opener bits are. doesn't work with wing nuts where the bolt goes all the way through but useful none the less.
P. Funk Posted June 4, 2004 Posted June 4, 2004 I don't quite get ya... you mean if you take the bottle opener and cross head screwdriver things out, and use the gap underneath?
