isquint
Looking over some of my twitter feeds today, I noticed an article pop up about Magenta not be considered a color. Click here to read that article. http://www.biotele.com/magenta.html Then I came across a similar article in the defense that Magenta IS a color. You can read that article here.http://arstechnica.com/science/news/2009/0...s-a-magenta.ars What do you think???
revbobuk
That second article is as clear a summary of the situation as I've read. My degree in physics is a little old now, but I couldn't have put it better even when it was fresh!

isquint
Wikipedia thinks whatever you tell it to think... That's funny, when ever I tell Wikipedia it sucks, it always seems to forget that!
Trunker
If it isn't a colour, how come when mixed with Cyan and Yellow it creates white? What is it called then? And how does my printer print it, ** laughs out loud **.
boatman
Looking over some of my twitter feeds today, ..... What do you think??? Personally, I think that Twitter is a waste of spectrum! Just last week, Stephen Fry was trapped in a lift on the 26th floor of Centre Point in London together with four men who were all unknown to him. He wasn't just stuck there for five minutes, but the full half hour. Luckily he had his mobile and was able to access Twitter. He was able to share with the rest of the Twitter world, pictures of the other men in the lift, the walls, the floor and roof, the lights in the ceiling and even the control buttons. What a waste of precious bandwidth. Oh, and to your original question, of course Magenta is a colour. It has x & y cordinates on the CIE colour diagram so it exists. OK, it's not a spectral colour, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.
Russ83
Looking over some of my twitter feeds today, ..... What do you think???Well you learn something new everyday, I've just had to lookup Twitter as I had no idea what that was/meant... Thankyou for cluttering up some more of my brain. Oh wait, this topic was about magenta, well of course it exists we use it (or similar shades) everyday don't we??
Light Console
If it isn't a colour, how come when mixed with Cyan and Yellow it creates white? What is it called then? And how does my printer print it, ** laughs out loud **. That would make black...which is nothing! (We can't have a light without a dark to put it in!) Russ83
That would make black...which is nothing! (We can't have a light without a dark to put it in!)I'm guessing Matthew was thinking about additive mixing (shining 3 separate lights onto a surface) and not the normal CMY subtractive colour mixing. Thankyou for cluttering up some more of my brain. Sorry Russ. Twitter can be time consuming. But it does give me a quick update on what is happening in some parts of the industry. That is if you follow the correct people! Personally, I think that Twitter is a waste of spectrum! Personally I do agree with you in that I really don't need to know what someone is doing every minute of the day, but it can be a form of RSS or a source of news. Like I said above... if you follow the correct people. :P

HobitLight
As far as I'm aware, the only colour that doesn't exist is black, as you can not create it, because black is the absence of other colours!... ...If this makes sense?!?
musht
Colour just isn`t simple for something that should have just the 3 components... http://www.colorcube.com/articles/articles.htm But ask the Mantis Shrimp, up to 16 different colour receptors way into UV.
