Jamtastic3 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Hi BR,So I had a problem with a DJscan 250XT: the shutter wasn't working. So I replaced the motor, but it wasn't the motor. I've realised that it's something to do with the PCB side of things. When on test mode I swapped the shutter function with the colour wheel function on the PCB and found that the shutter was indeed resetting but the colour wheel didn't. So, knowing that everything works apart from the shutter function, how do I deal with the fault on the PCB? The chips seem to be ok as does the heatsinks, so yeah, not sure what I'm looking at here... Any help would be great before I take it to get serviced :D Cheers!
ChazHS Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 If it's not a driver chip it could be something more serious, are all the solder connectons ok?
Jamtastic3 Posted February 18, 2009 Author Posted February 18, 2009 Everything seems to be ok. I forgot to mention though that when the motor is attatched at the adaptor (PCB end) the motor becomes stiff, as in it's recieving some kind of signal ready to take the command, it's just the command doesn't make the motor move when the shutter channel is brought up from 0 or doesn't move in the reset sequence.... if that makes sence.
sirrus Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Im presuming its not connected to any DMX chains or anything? ruling out problems such as terminations e.t.c. Could be the firmware is screwed up? can you re-install it? - I've done updates on Martin's and High end system studio spots in the past, not too difficult.. sirrus
ChrisBogg Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Does sound like a driver chip kind of thing to me. have you belled out the cable loom with a meter? sometimes these things can appear and disappear as you move the loom from one connector to the other. when testing etc. Chris
KevinE Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 You say you think the chips are ok..how do you know? If one phase is short on the output IC then it will lock up the motor and you'll get little or no stepping. You need to scope the outputs. A loom fault is rare on a shutter on a DJscan250, they tend to occur more on moving heads.
Jamtastic3 Posted February 19, 2009 Author Posted February 19, 2009 Ok cool. I'm not up on metering things. The only metering I do is continuity (when the meter beeps) so what would I need to do exactly? I could ring out the loom but how do I check the adaptor on the PCB?
KevinE Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Ok cool. I'm not up on metering things Lets just hope it's something very simple, then! :(
Don Allen Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 here is the service manual for the Robe DJSac250XT . With the unit turned off, use your multimeter to check between the STROBO which I assume is the shutter, and the stepper motor. Just to add to stepper motor troubleshooting, if the motor is connected to a driver ic, then the stepper motor should be locked in place by the holding current. Theis doesn't mean the driver ic is ok as KevinE points out the driver ic could be faulty. Swapping stepper motors is the quickest way of seeing if it is a motor or diver ic fault, so it would appear to be a driver ic fault. Something to remeber is that when you swap over stepper motors, you will be getting position sensors out of sync, such as swapping the shutter stepper motor with colorwheel stepper motor, so the unit will not initialise or operate correctly
