Does anyone have any last minute bits of advice that would help or ease my nerves/excitedness?! Thanks for all the advice so far! Talia Yeah - Say hi to Jaci and Moose for me! Seriously though - when I was there, there was a great team - and I am sure that the team is still great. It really is one of the best in the fleet. Rgds Mac
TaliaS Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Hi, You are right- the team are absolutely fantastic and everyone works really hard which is a nice change from my last place. Moose is my PM (and a really good one!) and I'm in Studio B. I'm learning so much and it's all really interesting, especially how to maintain the ice rink. There are a lot of terms that I'm getting to grips with due to the American names but I'm getting there! The ship is fantastic and huge!!
Zombais Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 I was offered a job onboard. Believe it was stage crew. Because they put me through a recruiting agency I turned it all down because I've heard of so many problems with people getting scammed by people trying to offer cruise ship jobs. I also wasn't happy they shifted me down from Lighting Tech to Stage crew. Not even the middle of the road. It seemd really risky and wierd to be sending people I don't really know except by phone and email so many details. After reading this topic I wish I haddn't turned it down. They told me they promote regularly, is that really true? The other duties they listed did not sound like something I would want to be doing for very long, especially since I have been working souly in in a theatre/concert setting for the last few years.
TaliaS Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Are you from the UK? What recruiting company were you speaking to?
Zombais Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I am actually from Canada, the company was Cruise Services International. I couldn't even find a list of register recruiters or anything so I gave up on it. They sent me forms to fill out, the thing to give the doc for the medical, and all that. I just felt really awkward the first time I was interviewed because it was clear she was reading when she asked her questions about DMX and the differences between channel and dimmer. Suppose I wouldn't actually go now unless they wanted a scenic carp as well ;)
TaliaS Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Yeah, they do read off a sheet of paper because they hire for all different positions on the ship and so they don't know our job in detail. I remember in my initial interview she asked me 'where would you place a microphone on the stage?' and I answered 'well it depends on the application' and I described different scenarios. She replied that the answer she had on her paper was ' in the centre of the stage' but she understood where I was coming from and accepted my answer and she admitted that she was reading off a piece of paper. For the different cruise companies hiring partners that responded to my application they all asked for personal information straight away such as passport numbers etc so its all legit. It does seem a bit dodgy and I was a little put off at the beginning as I had also heard about scams but it just seems to be the way that they operate.
DRG Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 The scammers will always ask you for money. You should never have to pay to work, so if they ask you for money don't send it!You can send your CV in directly through the Royal Caribbean Productions website these days, I think they pass it on to the relevant partner.I went to my interview at a hotel in London. Lot's of people being interviewed that day, so I had to wait 2 hrs watching corporate videos. When I got in the room the interview said she knew nothing about my job (she was there to hire waiters/bar staff) and I'd have to have a phone interview. So all that waiting around for that. My phone interview was less than 10 mins by someone who really wasn't all that technical. I could've easily been lying about my experience (I know this has happened, the hiring partners supposed to check references but this doesn't always happen), but I answered the questions and was hired as light tech. There is no middle ground between stage staff and tech, you're either one or the other. As for promotions, unless you get lucky (a tech leaves and they have no replacement) don't expect to get one until at least a second contract. The Production Manager on the ship will need to sign-off on any possible promotion. Plus the company doesn't like to move people from ship-to-ship mid-contract because of the expense of transfers unless they really have to.
Sandrobagg Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Hello everybody!I'm starting today on this great forum and I have some questions ... if you can help me, I´ll be grateful! I got a job(TECHNICAL STAGE STAFF) on Royal Caribbean on September and I still haven´t get my date of shipment. Anybody knows when I´ll probably receive my date of shipment ? Thank you very much and I hope to increase in this forum too. Best regards
DRG Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Once a position becomes avaliable they'll let you know. Sometimes they'll give you plenty of notice, sometimes just a day or two. Be ready!

stageninja Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Hello everyone, I've been lurking this forum for a couple of weeks and joined to ask a few questions. I'm currently working for a company that mostly does business in the music production part of the industry. I've recently decided that I want to work for Royal Caribbean as a light tech. About 2 weeks ago I emailed my resume to the email address given at the RC Productions website and haven't heard back from them. I was wondering how long it usually took to hear back. I feel that I'm qualified for this job, but resumes are not my specialty. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
mac.calder Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 It could be 1 day, it could be 4 months. Like any large company, they have an HR department, and a convoluted recruitment process. When they are not really after adding techs to the books (ie they have a full rosta) they may sit on it for a fair while before they make any calls. If they are desperate to fill a possition, the resumes will be passed straight through to those who make the call. Certain times of the year (towards the end of a semester) they will obviously be inundated with resumes because all the newbies coming out of school start applying... Be patient. There are about 50 light techs in current employ, plus a fair number on the books, and hundreds of applicants a year - if they like your resume, they will contact you.

Before I get this job, I sent a lot of resumes for a lot of emails and it did not work. Try this, click on Hiring Partners and find the office more close to you - https://jobs.rccl.com/jobs/rccl_jobs.nsf/shipboardI think, they receive a lot of resumes by mail, and they give preference to use the hiring partners to make all the procedures. Good Luck dude !
