Killyp Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Hi BR. I've got a Yamaha MR1242 which has until yesterday been working fantastically. It was serviced a few months ago from a state of absolute disrepair to absolute perfection for next to nothing. One of the channels has stopped working at the pre-amp stage (not a phantom power related thing). I get a pop when I plug a mic in and the pre-amp clip light flashes just like all the other channels, but I only get sound when max. gain is applied and with it, lots of hum. Ideally I'd like to try and repair this myself as it's something I kinda need to get into, but I have no real experience in repairing things at a component level - only board replacements etc... Any advice?
KevinE Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Maybe the channel insert jack switch has gone dirty, its very common.
Killyp Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 Fixed, but thanks for the response anyway! A whisker had crept across from a solder to a (not sure what you call it - silicon channel?) on the input board. Scraped it off and now it works fine. FWIW, having also opened up my Behringer desk, I can't believe how much better things were made 'back then'. This makes the Behringer look even more like a pile of junk.
KevinE Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Well not sure what you're talking about but it's fixed so thats good!!!
Davethsparky Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Well not sure what you're talking about but it's fixed so thats good!!! I interpreted it as meaning that a stray bit of solder had bridged two pcb tracks, though as always I may be wrong.
Killyp Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 Thanks for the translation - that's just what I meant. What I can't understand though is that it was working a few weeks ago, and no work has been done on it.
