Jem DMX Converter

Hi,

I have a Jem ZR12AL smoke machine which is currently not working. I think the problem is with the controller, however I can not be 100% sure. I was wandering if the Jem DMX converter would work with this particular model of smoke machine, if not then I may try to get the unit repaired but I can't see this being cheap, and I am not sure if it is even worth repairing one of these units although Jem do/did make good machines the ZR12AL was one of the entry level machines at the time it was made.

Any help or suggestions greatly recived, or if anyone has an old Jem remote kicking around id be interested...

Thanks

If it's the DMX convertor that is the same size and shape as your current remote then yes it will work. The only difference between your ZR12 AL and the ZR12 DMX was the remote is replaced by a DMX interface.

However there is a potentially cheap and easy way you can check to see if it's the remote. If you have access to an analogue desk, demux or anything else that can provide 0-10v DC (bench power supply etc) then you can use this as the machine is controlled via 0-10v.

On the 5-pin DIN connector on the machine you need to apply 0-10v to pin 5 and the GND to pin 2. Applying 1.5v (or above) will set the machine to Heat and then once ready 2-10v will control the pump speed and therefore your output.

What makes you think the remote is at fault? What symptoms does the machine have?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I have been doing some further investigating today and the problem is with the main PCB, the machine heats up properly but does not pump any smoke, on further investigation it looks like 230v has been passed over some of the low voltage components and fired the op-amp for the pump!! To further compound the problem the fried components are all surface mount so not possible for me to repair.

I am now on the hunt for a new or working 2nd hand pcb for the ZR12 series foggers?

Cheers

Chris

The ZR12 Main PCB is still listed as a typical spare part on the parts list so should in theory still be readily available.

Try contacting a friendly JEM/Martin supplier.
