KevinE Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Hello, here's a closeup of the low voltage PSU board of a C-Audio TR850. It looks like its been modified with a couple of extra resistors, a capacitor and a red wire link. Does anyuone know if this is official, or just a failed bodge attempt? The amp is faulty. Cheers in advance!Kev http://www.geocities.com/kedwardsleisure/tr850.jpg
Rob_Beech Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 The company were known for adding some weird and wonderful additions to their boards in some odd ways. The 3001 had an add on board for the protection circuit (IIRC) that was just held in place by the wires.
aidso Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 BODGE. It looks like stuff has been changed after factory(loads of really bad soldiering)
Peter F Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 BODGE. It looks like stuff has been changed after factory(loads of really bad soldering) Agreed, but as Rob correctly pointed out C-Audio are not averse to a bit of post manufacturing process modifications. Cheers, Peter
sleah Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 The red wire appears to be connecting two points that should be connected by PCB track. Chances are that the track has gone open circuit, probably due to a crack. My feeling is that the board has been damaged and repaired, if the red wire is to bypass a crack, it's highly likely there will be other cracks or damage that are causing the problem. The chances of a cracked board with only one open circuit track are remote - mostly due to sod's law!!!
KevinE Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 The board's not cracked, what happened I think is that the 470R resistors by the zeners at the bottom right corner run so hot that they've burned out, been changed, and whoever changed them tore the pcb tracks so linked them across. The reason I ask is that this part of the board is to do with the muting relays which just happen to be buzzing when they're warm. The whole amp seems a bit of a pig's ear but it belongs to a very good customer....
