ChazHS
Hi guys, on cheapo (ish) jack connectors, what do you guys use to crimp the cable strain relief bit on? (The bit right at the back) a pair of pliers makes it manky and flat, what do you guys do to make it curve nicely round the cable?
Rob_Beech
A pair of pliers...... But don't do them 1 side at a time. Squeeze from the bottom on the curved part of the pliers. THEN do each side. Alternatively, don't buy cheapo (ish) jacks :D
david.elsbury
I snip them off and use a layer (or 2 if I want it super strong) of heatshrink.
Charlie Jeal
I just use the good neutrik jacks solves all those problems. Charlie
ChazHS
These are Neutrik jacks but they are 3.5mm ones, so crappy strain relief here we come! For the 6mm jacks I ALWAYS use Neutrik, same with XLRs and Phonos.

Do this very quickly with a hot (No.8) iron so as not to melt the plastic bits. But for professional applications you should be using jack plugs with a proper strain relief, either Neutrik or the Rendar ones (whatever they are called now). MarkPAman
Neutrik NTP3RC (3.5mm right angle) have a propper strain relief. They're a bit fiddely though.
ChazHS
Yeah, these were just straight jacks, I've done them now and they have come out well. =)
