DonkiDonki
I've always liked to have some scanners in my lighting rigs, usually cyberlights. Whilst moving heads tend to have better features there are times when you just cant beat the speed of moving mirrors. What I was wondering was, are any major manufacturers still developing Pro versions of scanners? Most of the current models seem to be aimed squarely at the disco market, whilst old stalwarts like the cyberlight are now becoming rather out dated. Alas, I suspect we wont be seeing any more exciting scanners now that the manufacturers seem so obsessed with moving heads and led's.
tokm
Clay Paky still do the GS4's, Stage Scans & Miniscan HP3's. Pro enough :** laughs out loud **:? Another one to look at (that I don't ever see/hear mentioned) are the Robe XT range of scanners. They aren't too bad from what experience I have of them. The 1200's seemed cope fine on the times I've seen/had them in the rig with the GS4's.. and seemed to do all the same tricks/features. I'm sure there are other's still being made, but off the top of my head, those are the only to manufacturers that come to mind.. Apart from HES/Barco and the Cybers. T Just thought.. dare I say it, Futurelight? If your on a tight budget? Can't knock em at the price tbh.

More what I was getting at is no one seems to be trying to develop the features in scanners like they are in heads; I guess there just isn't enough sales to justify the r&d these days. Ben
Cyberlights are still a current product also, or at least were a year ago

paulears
Cyberlights have now been upgraded to Cyberlight Turbo (better optics and better light output).
DonkiDonki
The Cyberlights are my favourite unit, especially in Turbo form. The Cyberlight was released in 1995. The smaller, "disco" end of the market still sees plenty of developement in scanners with all kinds of new models appearing frequently. But there hasn't been any real improvements on the large scanners since the Cyberlight came out. For example the Cyberlight has good features but is very large and heavy. Theres no real reason by now that everything the Cyber does shouldnt be in a lighter, more compact unit with an even faster mirror (and much better repeat-position accuracy).(Miniscan's and Technobeams don't fit that bill) As an example, the Mac500 is of a similar age to the Cyberlight, but look at how moving heads have come on since then. Even some of the budget heads now outperform a 500.
