paulears
Have a look at this still. From Yes Minister. Ludovic Kennedy in the radio studio. Notice anything?http://www.eastanglianradio.com/yes-minister-lx.jpg
dunk_1984
I'm not an oldie... So I'm guessing, but is that a lighting controller? I hesitate to use the word desk.
Rob_Beech
Yes James. They often require complicated lighting in a radio studio. I've noticed it's a Woman. Slightly un-common years ago I'm led to believe.
smalljoshua
I'm nowhere near experienced enough to have seen this the first time but it does look like it has curved faders? Josh
MarkPAman
Now, why did Paul choose that name for the file? ;)
Shez
I used to use an ancient Thorn lighting desk with faders like those...
smalljoshua
Actually, is it a lighting desk? It looks like it. Josh
Rob_Beech
Yes, I believe so. But I thought the female operator was more unusual. Certainly more so that you'd expect today.
paulears
It's actually a bloke - in a jacket and collar. I can see where it came from, so discount the op.
Peter F
Dead man faders (on a lighting desk) Do I get a prize? Peter EDIT: To cover the fact that I may have neglected to mention, or perhaps even notice that there is a lighting desk positioned where one could reasonably expect a sound one to be plonked. Rob_Beech
I'm always making that mistake...... ah well.... still looks like a woman to me.
Dmills
I **think** it is actually a Strand ThreeSet lighting desk, with all the faders pushed up (as would have been normal for a BBC radio desk at the time), see http://www.strandarchive.co.uk/control/man...t/threeset.html for a picture, but Strand were not above customising these. This is not by any means the strangest wrong technology as a prop I have seen in film. The Movie "Pi" had an octal base relay as a bit of supercomputer technology, and I seem to remember one of the treck films having an arc lamp that had sputtered metallisation all over the inside of the envelope as the 'warp core'. There are plenty of other examples. Regards, Dan.
andy_s
I've seen a few old strand preset desks in my time, but not one with VU meters that I can recall. never spent any time in radio control rooms, however, so have no facts to base any opinions on. (but since when has that stopped us speculating...) and as to gender - could be a girl, could be a boy. not going to hazard a guess.
Andrew C
Certainly the same or very similar quadrant faders as a Strand SP , but the upstand with the meters isn't like any I've seen.
kurzweil_dude
I understand all the 'Lighting Desk' comments, but just for a little info, heres an oooollld analogue mixer, ex-Abbey Road. Notice the curved faders here also. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep06/images/jim7tg1desk2_l.jpg
