RoyS
Hi All, I am putting together a shopping list for a school that has funding to upgrade performance sound and lights. On the lighting front they have 18 channels of dimming and want to add another 6. They also want to add some LED fixtures perhaps up to 10 each requiring 5 channels of DMX. Movers are not an option... Operators of the rig will range from teachers with techno fear, to bright pupils. My question is therefore what kind of desk would be most suitable and economical? Offline programming would be nice.. USB backup/storage also.. (I’m not excluding PC based option but would rather go for a stand alone desk) Cheers to all.. niclights
The Zero88 Frog range would be my suggestion. Established & popular in schools from what I gather. Crucially they have virtual dimming capability which could make all the difference when controlling the cheap LED pars and is quite unusual for the price. peter
Sounds ideal for either a Jester ML (24 or 48, depending on how much expansion facility you want) or a Leap Frog 48 (if you see yourself needing touchscreens, ethernet, etc, in future). If you want help for either, let me know.
johnhuson
Also take a look at the ETC Smartfade ML, meets all your criteria unless your idea of 'economic' is £150! EDIT Just re-read the OP and spotted the USB backup request, the Smartfade ML uses SD cards rather than USB sticks but the desk can be connected to a PC running Smartsoft via USB. sirrus
Another vote for the Jester / Zero88... Of course if you wanted to keep costs down e.t.c. you could consider a Fat Frog or something from usedlighting.co.uk but personally I would go for a new JesterML 12/24. Reading your requirements suggests that it’s perfect for the job.
Jaker26
Zero 88 tend to be good for schools as they are not that complicated to use. Although my prefrence is Strand I think the best choice for schools is something from the Zero 88 range. Is you want I'm not that far away and would love to come and gain some experience while helping you.
smalljoshua
I have used the FatFrog and various Jesters and would probably recommend the Jester ML24 for this. Up to 30 fixtures (be they movers or led) and 24 generic channels. Monitor port on the back. USB backup/firmware upgrade. Very good all rounder.
