sam.henderson Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 I have now got WYSIWYG Design and am beggining to build my venue. It is a small studio type venue. Where can I get things like Doors (normal and fire), Fire Exit signs, Wing Tabs, pull out/ retractable teared seating (175 seats), floorboards, front runners, fire extinguishers etc. etc. Have checked the Cast website and have found no trace of anything like this! Thank you in advance, Sam
gareth Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 Would you like the world on a plate too? You have to be prepared to do a bit of work to create some of the 'building blocks' for your venue yourself. The basic CAD tools are there in WYG, or use an external CAD package and import the basic structures then 'flesh them out' in 3D with WYG.
sam.henderson Posted May 26, 2004 Author Posted May 26, 2004 OK- So any chance of having some quick tips on how to create a door or fire exit sign in WYG. Sam
gareth Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 Fire exit sign - I'd imagine the easiest way would be to create a box of the relevant size, position it on the wall, create/find a bitmap of the required graphics, apply it to the front surface of the box, and (if you're feeling really flash) make it light-emitting to the required level. Door - well, kinda depends on what sort of door, I suppose - could be anything from a flat surface with a push-plate on it to something quite ornate. Presumably, to be using a program like WYG, you must have some basic CAD skills - apply these skills to creating the kind of door you want. If you don't have these basic CAD skills, you should think about accquiring them if you want to get the best out of your new software. Incidentally, I'm guessing that by "front runners" you mean house tabs, and "wing tabs" translates to soft legs? And does a CAD representation of your venue really need to have 3D models of fire extinguishers in it? Perhaps you've just got way too much time on your hands ... :)
merlin24 Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 Sam,Wysiwyg has a library with various different types of objects in.Doorways and Windows you have to draw as surfaces. As Gareth says you have to be prepared to put the time in initially, once you have your venue you can save it as template file, Objects such as Fire Extinguishers you can create from a cylinder, but do you really need them and will they actually be visable. Don't waste your time on things that won't be helpful to you.Remember Wysiwyg is a Lighting Design package with CAD ability NOT the other way around. If you really want intricate detail by buy AutoCAD or similar and import into Wysiwyg. Hope this helpsAndy
Tom Baldwin Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 Also, generally the more objects your scene includes, the longer it will take to render...
P. Funk Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 when I was using it, I created bitmaps of the walls of the venue (which are just about flat), with doors etc, in flash, and then created a surface in WYG and applied those to it. Works quite well...
