noelw76
I have just bought a soundcraft fx 8 that came without it's psu.my question is: can I dispense with the three pin plug that is on the back of the desk and re wire it with a standard iec plug? therebye saving myself the extortionate amount of money required for a new psu? the connector is wired with red, green and black inside the chassis which I assume is live, (red)earth(green) and(black) neutral. I can't find any info on imput power on soundcrafts website.
KevinE
I wouldn't if I were you! That connector takes a low voltage power supply, its a Soundcraft special type HB8053 according to the manual. These PSUs are usually rated 17-0-17 AC so connecting 240V will fry you and your desk together.

Yorkie
External PSU means they can use a cheaper power supply and it's less likely to cause problems inside the mixer. If it helps, as far as I can tell it's the same one as the F1 and SX.
KevinE
I guess you got the mixer cheap! Well..you pays your money..
boswell
Just looked at ours, it's 17-0-17VAC rated at 20VA,
J Pearce
Shouldn't be too hard to buy a generic mixer PSU of the right current capacity and change the socket to match it (which I'd advise anyway as the plastic 3 pin socket is awful and has a habit of disintegrating at inopportune moments). gareth
why do they do these things?More to the point, why do people buy something like this without the PSU that's essential to make it go?! :P
grizzly
More to the point, why do people buy something like this without the PSU that's essential to make it go?! :D Because, judging by their posts, they have absolutely no concept of what the PSU is and does. :P
Ande2000
Well the reason I have a spare psu is last week my car was broken into and my Fx8 stolen, with you just purchasing one without the psu, I was hoping just maybe... if not then I have a spare one. I replaced it with a mfx8 soundcraft, however I think the fx8 was a little warmer. BTW I am willing to pay £50 to get it back no questions.
