Jonathan Pilborough
You might want to specify which desk(Make & Model) you are referring to :** laughs out loud **:

paulears
It's a cheap, very basic programmer for discos and simple button prod operation. It works by assigning DMX in blocks of 16, then you have access to each of the 16 channels in the block. Hitting scan 1 button brings up the first block and then the 8 faders can be used to adjust the parameters you want, then you can store the results. This means that you don't get the luxury of just being able to prod a wheel or rotary controller - and most of the really useful features of a proper control are missing. So nothing is labelled, or has screen facilities. So you're just dealing with DMX values. So finding red on the colour wheel is just a case of starting from one end and shoving the fader. stopping and recording when you get to where you want. To use this controller with proper movers will be perfectly possible - but a real pain to operate if you want anything other than flashy flashy, wave around operation. A hundred quids worth of control isn't really up to the job, in my opinion.
michael
OK Thanks if you think the desk isnt up to the job could you reccomend a lighting desk that is between £100-£
pritch
Recommend for what? What exactly do you want to do with it? You're not going to get an awful lot of bang for your buck in that price range, even second hand.

Ynot
OK I do concerts, talent shows and thetre shows with at the most 6 mac250s and 10 generics and 4 ledshope this helpsIn that case, no - I doubt you'll get any recommendations here for a desk between those prices.Or indeed a lot more than your budget. I'd suggest hiring a decent desk from your local supplier being the best bet.
Davethsparky
In that sort of price range you'd be lucky to get a decent 2 preset manual desk. But if you did then you could drop the macs, expand your generics and show off your real lighting design skills.
peter
Hi Michael You might like to consider a PC based controller, like LightFactory, which should be affordable (£299 for a 1 DMX Universe Licence, including output dongle) assuming you have a PC available to run it on. Let me know if you need any help,
smalljoshua
Or MagicQ which is very good free software. Used with a cheep Enttec dongle it can be made to work for less than £200. Josh
Chris Beesley
Paul has already covered the main workings of this console - however if the OP needs further information the best port of call is always the user manual on the manufacturer's website >> Clicky! or their main product page >> Clicky!
