vibedisco
I am a mobile Dj looking to speed up setup times. At the moment I run an extension lead up the trussing to the middle and all the lights plug into this but it looks pretty naff. Is there a way to remove this extension lead or a more professional/clean way of doing this (with DMX) Anyone have any ideas?
Sound In Gloucestershire
DMX is not power, you will still need electricity how many effects are we talking about here? using extensions on a goalpost isnt so bad, if your extension is black, im presuming its black right? The other way would be to get a Switch panel (you can get an 8 way for as little as £40) and make up IEC to IEC leads, this means youll have a cable for every single light going down the goalpost, but its alot easier to bundle and tape up those cables
vibedisco
The setup consists of 3 robe 160 xt moving heads, 1500W strobe and RGB laser with pc dongle so at the moment I have one extension lead running up each pole and halfway into each trussing section which the lights plug into. The ext leads are secured with grip ties to each trussing section. Im also thinking about grip tieing the DMX cables to the top goalpost as well so that they only need be plugged in but I dont know if they can be linked in serial if the channels of the heads are not positioned in serial. perhaps im trying to solve a problem thats already solved but any ideas on improvement would be cool
smalljoshua
DMX can be linked in any way as long as it goes into a fixture and out to the next one. It doesn't matter which order the lights are connected. Josh
Mr Steve
I'd do what Sound In Gloucestershire mentioned - make up or buy some IEC extensions. If your truss is black you can use some black PVC tape to neatly secure the cables to an edge of the truss and leave the cables pre-rigged if that would work for you. niclights
Certainly the neatest and fastest way is always to minimise cabling- ie. in your case one mains feed and one data. Splitting power as close as possible to the fixtures is the most efficient. This might be on the truss or on the floor, depending on which is more suitable.DMX can be connected in any order and would be daisy-chained. For any cabling that can be permanently fixed I'd use cable ties. For any that is temporary use black insulation tape. This will speed up removal and is quite normal.
