LCD Monitor flightcase

Just wondering if anyone has any neat tricks for touring LCD monitors? I've posted in General Tech Chat as I guess this could apply equally to LCDs used for lighting desks, digital sound desks, camera displays, AV control etc.

I've found that most computer LCDs include a stand which, although sometimes removable, is too bulky to fit neatly into a briefcase-sized box. This is incredibly annoying, as the fragile LCD panel itself would fit tidily in such a case. It would be so easy to forget to take the stand if this had to be kept in a separate box.

Has anyone found a particular make/model of monitor especially good for this? Or has anyone had decent cases made specially?

Any input welcome!

Ben.

I have an old Sanyo where once you slide a clip the stand will fold flat to the back of the monitor. I don't think you can get them any more but how about having a look at flight case warehouse? They will probably have something and if not they will be able to custom manufacture something to fit your needs.

Thanks for the pointer Bruce. I'd had a quick scan through that anyway and thought it was a slightly different discussion, being based around fitting LCDs into a larger AV 19" rack. I'd rather find a solution for housing a single one on its own, however if all else fails, the rack-drawer mount with a suitable 19" rack sleeve would do I guess. A little bulkier than I'd hoped though.

Cheers,

CPC do some quite promising looking cases, although they are designed for two monitors (17" or 19"), more info here. Chris did take the time to send me the CAD drawings of them, but I never quite managed to get my head round them to work out if my screen would fit and the requirement for them fell away a bit, so I've not bothered in the end. I should be able to upload the CAD info if you want, or Chris Beesley can give you more info.

Quite often the bases are designed to detach by holding in two clips from underneath.

My solution and all the ones I've seen from hire are based on foam either side with a slot for the display which goes in upside down with base on top. Cables can then just sit in the gap on the backside of the screen.
