Ian der Laan Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Hi, I'm after a (universal) Projector Cradle for attachment to a lighting rig (scaff bars)... Does anyone have any suggestions please?... Also, if anyone has experience of powering projectors via 15amp, advice welcome!! Mod's if this is in the wrong section etc. could you please accept my apologies and remove. Many thanks in advance, Ian.
Lee House Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Please drop me an E-mail with the projector that you are looking to hang and I can get you pricing on this.(I know you want a universal one but there is a massive difference between a 2000 ANSI and a 9000 ANSI for example so need to make sure we are in the same ballpark) Kind regards Lee Lee.House@ac-et.com
Ian der Laan Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 Email sent. Forgive me for my ignorance but could you explain why there's a massive difference in cradle required depending on ANSI rating? Cheers.
dunk_1984 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Also, if anyone has experience of powering projectors via 15amp, advice welcome!! 15A is a connector and rating. You would have no issues powering your projector down a 15A cable. However if you meant from a dimmer, then this is a big NO NO! I'm guessing as you want the cradle this is an install somewhere with sockets on the bar, if so, just use something like a 13-15 or 16-15 adapter to the socket in question.
Ynot Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Forgive me for my ignorance but could you explain why there's a massive difference in cradle required depending on ANSI rating? Cheers.Simply the physical size of larger output projectors.a d0mestic type projector at 1500 lumens is going to be WAY smaller than a pro job running at 10,000 lumens. There's also the extra weight that this bigger size brings of course.
Simon Lewis Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Forgive me for my ignorance but could you explain why there's a massive difference in cradle required depending on ANSI rating? Cheers. Because there's a difference in weight and size between this:http://www.projectors.co.uk/images/catthum.jpg and this:http://www.barco.com/projection_systems/images/ev_FLM-cover_N.jpg edit... beaten to it by the nimble fingered Ynot - but he doesn't have pretty pictures ;-)
Ian der Laan Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 Just to be pedantic, ANSI rating doesn't always relate to unit size. It may have been easier to just ask what size/type I wanted? A concurrent post has been automatically merged from this point on. I'm guessing as you want the cradle this is an install somewhere with sockets on the bar, if so, just use something like a 13-15 or 16-15 adapter to the socket in question.Yes, I'll do that ta... I just need a 13/15 at the projector end and a 15/13 at t'other, plugged in to mains.... dunno what I was rambling on at... :)
dunk_1984 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Yes, I'll do that ta... I just need a 13/15 at the projector end and a 15/13 at t'other, plugged in to mains.... dunno what I was rambling on at... :) Other way round, but you have the correct pair of adapters/jumps.

PeterT Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 No, but convention states that the first number is the plug and the second number is the sockethence 13-15 means 13A plug and 15A and socketand 15-13 means 15A plug and 13A socket
Ian der Laan Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 I was jokinghence :P means humourand :) just to make sure Thanks for the reply though ;)
dbuckley Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I built my dual carousel cradle out of dexion...
StevieR Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Yes, I'll do that ta... I just need a 13/15 at the projector end and a 15/13 at t'other, plugged in to mains.... dunno what I was rambling on at... ;) Yes, for goodness sake, don't be tempted to fit a 15amp plug to a projector because although you know that its hard-power only, some day some dipstick will come along and plug it into a dimmer channel when you're off having a cuppa! Now how many times have I seen dumb electrical installers do things like that...hmmm..... Steve
hounsome Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Tell Unicol in Oxford what the Projector is and they will have a Flying Frame for it. Colin
Dmills Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Yes, for goodness sake, don't be tempted to fit a 15amp plug to a projector because although you know that its hard-power only, some day some dipstick will come along and plug it into a dimmer channel when you're off having a cuppa! Seen that one, but there really is nothing you can do about the less then technically competent finding ever more creative ways to trash projection gear except put it behind a locked door. I think the best 'creative destruction of someone elses projector' that I witnessed the aftermath of was a gallery show where the projector (at the time ~£15Ks worth) was found to be too noisy, the fix? First build a box around it, when it is still too noisy, wrap it in a quilt before putting it in the box! The wonderful part : When the first one packed up after about 10 minutes of cooking, the got the spare and did the exact same thing a second time! I came in to work to find a puzzled gallery director wondering why both projectors had stopped working! The hire company had a rather ahh "frank exchange of views" with the gallery director over that little snafu. Regards, Dan.
