Joe White
Hey Guys just wondering if anybody knows of one or a few makes of lighting stand that starts of compact but can go fairly large. What im doing is I have 8 Long-Nose par 36's and im building small T-bars with 4 on each for small hires, But I'd like to have the stand in the T-Bar cases.Im then looking for stands that go as short as 90cm-1m and extend up to say 2.5/3M with a 28mm Dia TubeThanks Joe
Sound In Gloucestershire
I presume the 90cm-1m is when the stand is packed down? or is that for use as well?
Joe White
Yes sorry 90cm/1m when folded down and when extended max of about 2.5/3m

Joe White
Thanks So far but as you may not have noticed its only 4 par36 cans that are going on this stand so £80+ is asking a bit much I'm really looking for el-cheapo or a tad more but nothing hugely expensive Thanks Joe
Rozztech
el-cheapo although if you shopped around for this stand you might get slight reductions in price asking for a very cheap stand that has a range in length like the ones you want will be hard. Good luck with your shopping ,sorry that my links were of little or no use to you ! Sam ;)
Sound In Gloucestershire
you should have said you were looking el-cheapo! I doubt they do such a high stand, it would be rather dangerous IMO to have such a cheap stand that goes so high (£80+ isnt really expensive) theres hardly a big market for stands that can just about hold 4 par 36's that go so high! Just Some Bloke
How does £14.99 sound? It goes to 2.7m extended but doesn't give packed down size. Still, for the price... !

Even at 50W each, they're not going to be very bright, are they.
Sound In Gloucestershire
I have 2 of those maplin stands for £15....pros and cons Pro1) Its £15 for a lighting stand2) Its one of the shortest stands youll see, perhaps your target length is a bit optimistic! Cons1) Plastic Parts, they break when overtightened2) Theres nothing to keep the upright in the air (no safety pins or locking pins) so you end up overtightening the knobs (see con 1) 3) I use these to put 2 x 1kg LED Lights upon and I feel ok about that (below 2 metres) I would not want to go above that as I truly believe it to be unsafe, also the upright wobbles alot (even below 2 metres)4) If using at the maximum 2.7m height, the legs dont go very wide, so id be very scared using a top heavy load on such a narrow base5) The temptation is there to try and use them upto their 20kg limit, god help anyone who does this6) I own 2, I know they wont last, I needed 2 in a hurry to hold 2 little led lights (1kg each) and didnt want to fork out £100+ for a pair

I'm not sure I would spend that little of money one a light stand that going to hold your light investment and dimmer packs.r
gnomatron
I'd hope the stand wouldn't be holding your dimmer packs! To hold a couple of 40 quid led pars it's probably alright though, and I imagine it would do a decent job of holding 4 pin spots.

I've used these stands and as long as it's not for anything more than 4 lightweight cans you'll be fine. Don't overload them or they'll bend and don't put more weight on one side than the other or they'll fall over. Otherwise, for 4 small fittings and nothing else they'll do the job no problem.
