Psychedelic Theatre
Hi all, Not really theatre related, but costume none the less; I'm going to a fancy dress party and my current plan is to go as Rum Tum Tugger from Cats. I think the easiest way to make the costume is to buy a black catsuit and then work from there, attaching the fur and other trimmings. Finding a cheap black catsuit, or combination of skin tight leggings and top is proving rather difficult though. I've been to all my local dance shops and they had little or nothing to offer. I've had a look online, but I've struggled to find an 'all in one' for under ~£30. I've found plenty of leggings, but the plain black top is currently a struggle (Definitely needs to be long sleeved and skin tight). I'm trying to keep the basic suit under £30 and then I'll take a trip to Boyes and the local fabric shops to search for the other bits, which shouldn't cost much more than about £15. So, any tips? If anyone has suggestions for further down the line with the actual construction I'm all ears!! (Wardrobe is definitely not my strong point, though after many infuriating hours I've finally got the hang of my mothers sewing machine and the use of a needle and thread!) Many thanks in advance, Tim
w/robe
You are going to struggle to get a long sleeved, long legged, high neck unitard for a man for under £30. For fancy dress why not go to Primark and get some leggings and a long sleeved black T-shirt? Things to remember during construction, if you want to paint it spray works best, make sure you put something in the costume to stretch it and protect the other side of the garment and don't buy black clothes. When sewing to it use a needle for lycra and remember to keep it as stretched as it will be when you wear it AND when you are putting it on.
