mattwire
Need to rivet a catch back onto a flightcase. Trouble is I don't have any rivets the right size... I've measured the diameter of the holes as 4.0mm and the depth (catch, plywood, metal edging) as 20mm. So I think I'd need 4x22mm rivets - which don't seem to exist  Any ideas? tokm
Any ideas? Not wishing to sound patronising, but why not use 25mm rivets? Loads of them @ 4mm around.. Or's there a special reason you can't use that size in this instance? HTH, T
mattwire
Not patronising at all. 25mm would be absolutely fine. Trouble is I've not found anywhere that sells 4mm rivets longer than 18mm. Don't suppose you know anywhere?
boatman
I don't know of any 4mm by 25mm, but you can get 4.8mm by 25mm here or here. You may have to drill out your holes a little. HTH.
Simon Lewis
Need to rivet a catch back onto a flightcase. OK... if you are riveting metal to metal (outside face of catch to inside edge of hybrid edging) then a standard rivet would do. Most fastener suppliers can source long 4.8mm or 5mm rivets (as shown above). However, many flighcases are made with grooved rivets, and these are designed to expand in the wood - so you do not have to sandwich the inside strip of aluminium, and the surface remains smooth and protrusion free. I've bought/ordered mine from the local industrial fastener company before now, but I'd guess that most online suppliers (including Adam Hall and the firm I've linked to) can oblige. The depth you need need only be the depth through the catch, outer leg of the edging and the wood. Simon
