Nutcracker
Hello All. I'm currently looking at remote camera solutions for events (nightclub mostly, some conference work). I already have a couple of Sony EVI D30 Cameras which are good enough picture quality for my requirements however the IR remote is impractical in most venues, this is leading me to consider a remote extender for wireless control, has anyone got any experience of this kind of set up, what is the typical range of such systems? Alternatively a hardware controller using an extendable cable/connector system is worth considering, does anyone know of a compatible hardware controller? I already have some VISCA cables to use with a laptop & software but cable lengths are limited & I'm looking to reduce the equipment humping as much as possible. Paul_R
I already have some VISCA cables to use with a laptop & software but cable lengths are limited I have also been looking for a solution.Take a look at the Visca parts on ebay AVoverNET StoreAnything up to 400 and 800ft is possible it seems, and is easily cabled/extended using CAT5.. Even if you don't run a laptop, I am guessing that a hardware controller would still use Visca, and you still need the video signal returned, so those cables still might be an option.. Sony's own hardware controller RM-BR300 in the manual says it is compatible. It's not cheap however.I also found Telemetrics CP-ITV-D300 but again I believe that has a price tag. Wol
I agree with Paul on this one, that the cable lengths aren't that limited. Its just normal RS232 as far as I remember so fairly long cable lengths should be possible, and ethernet cable seems to work happily with this. Annoyingly, I wrote an ethernet based VISCA controller a couple of years ago which might have been helpful for this setup, then you just connect each device on a normal ethernet network and do whatever you need to with the video. Thanks guys, I've considered getting a couple of these cables which as you say will give me all the feeds in 1 cable run however the cost just for cables is out of budget for now, this is why a simple IR extender for control and a long s-video cable would be ideal, I can power the camera locally on stage. I'm shocked at the price of hardware controllers from Sony & Telemetrics, still I suppose if they have the market covered they can price as they want to. This has got me wondering about the Visca protocol, is it compatible with other CCTV PTZ protocols as the hardware controllers seems much better priced for essentially the same functions for a fifth of the price? Wol
It's unlikely that the two protocols will be compatible. Sort of like asking if Art-Net is 'compatible' with ACN! One controller won't work with another device. Im not au-fait with many CCTV PTZ protocols, but think that VISCA is awkward enough that it won't work unless you do get some form of converter between the two!
