Powerful Continuous Fogger advice

Hi there

Im looking for some advice. I have been using an antari DNG 100 fogger chiller unit on a few shows. I have had reasonable results with our antari z 1500 fog machines but they only seem to work continuously at around 28% it then goes back into heat. The output of the machine is not really enough for the chiller to look as we need. I have tried the unit with one of the DMX Jem zr?? machines and this was better but still we only got about 35-45% so my question it this, Can anyone recommend a powerful DMX machine with a better duty cycle. Perhaps we should start a poll, How high will your fogger run continuously?

Most machines will need to reheat if run at 100%. The solution is probably to get a bigger machine that will produce the volume of smoke you need whilst only running at 40-50% capacity. The more high spec (expensive) machines tend to have bigger heaters and heat capacity in relation to the size of the pump so are less prone to running out of heat.

LeMaitre G300 will produce vast quantities of smoke for long periods, but isn't in the price range of antari gear!

Hi

I would recommend an ANTARI HAZE MACHINE it doesn't have a DMX link but does have a remote link: http://www.terralec.co.uk/fog_and_haze_mac...ne/19478_p.html

I have been using one for about a year now and I have used this on continues 100% output on an outdoor event for about 40 mins.

It also uses cool haze so no heating is required this makes it able to run continuously for longer periods of time (so I was informed when I purchased it) although on the website it says "heater: 1000W" anyway that doesn't matter it works!

The tech specs from the website in case the link doesn’t work is:

This is an inexpensive haze machine, that is also cheap to run. Antari have developed this machine to provide cool translucent optical haze, so that you can get the best from lighting effects. The machine produces in excess of 2000 CU FT of haze per minute and will run continuously, using low cost fluid. Fluid level indicator and cut out prevent the pump from overheating. Supplied with a remote control and cable.

Heater: 1000 Watt

Output: 2,000 CU FT/Min

Tank capacity: 1.3 Litres

there are a few others on the website link I posted that have a DMX)

And why do you think that a haze machine would be a good idea when the OP is clearly looking for a Fogger to feed into a chiller for a low smoke effect.

If you don't understand the difference between a fogger and a hazer you're probably best not making suggestions.

Output: 2,000 CU FT/Min

Well that's going to work well when the machines that the OP has currently tried output around 10 times that output, disregarding the fact that it's a hazer and not a fogger.

Might be worth a bit more homework before posting suggestions in future Alex.

When we purchased the unit I was informed (over the phone) that it could be used with smoke fluid as well.

Anyway was just a thought.

Continuous output is the very definition of a haze machine, but it won't be possible to adapt the output to the chiller.

I wonder if your best option is the self-contained DNG200? This will be much more convenient and should guarantee the output. Although it might mean wasting the investment in your chiller, it might still be cheaper than a machine that is capable of continuous high-output.

As for 'cool haze' - just marketing nonsense. All haze is cool once dispersed, but water/glycol based always needs heating to create. The only type that does not is mineral oil based and costs considerably more. Similarly, 'fog' and 'haze' when water based are essentially the same, only the density varies.

I agree that continuous output is a key feature of a hazer I wouldn't go as far to say it's the only thing that defines the difference between a Fogger and a Hazer. Volume of output is another key difference.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I had looked at the dng200 but with the 100 in my unit seems daft having to buy another one! Also I have used the ice units before and even the machines in them are not so good at working continuously on more than 45% It would be just my luck to get a dng200 and find that it still only outputs the volume I need for 10 mins!

Josh, Looks like the magnum 2000 might be the way to go. I have had them on shows before but never used them for more than a few seconds. they are powerful machines.

The antari z1500s we have aren't bad for regular fog use but just dont hold out for long. I guess its a lot to expect a machine to do I mean how many people want 20-30 mins of continuous fog? under normal conditions you wouldn't be able to see you hand in front of your face! ** laughs out loud **
