midi to DMX problem

Hi There,Happy new year to all.

I have a showtec scanmaster 2 mk 2 & a yamaha mfc10 midi foot controller,

the scanmaster works well when used manually,

but I dont seem to be able to program the foot controller to change banks, chases, etc.

I'm following the manual to the letter (I think) .

Has anyone out there any experience of this combination and can shed some light for me.

Regards

Rich

Though I have not used either of these items, I have spent some time working out a similar setup for ourselves. As far as I know the Scanmaster requires midi "Note On/Off" messages and your mfc10 is not cabable of outputting this type of information. There may be at least 3 ways around this though;

1. translate your mfc10 "Control Change" & "Program Change" MIDI messages to "Note" messages on the fly via "Bomes MIDI translator" software on a laptop;

2. Check out a company called "MIDI Solutions" who make small standalone programmable MIDI translation boxes for around €100 - you'll find them on the web / thomann, etc.

3. Buy a footcontroller that does output MIDI Note information - like the relatively affordable Behringer FCB1010.

BTW, you could also spend 5 minutes plugging a MDI synth into the Scanmaster to make sure it's MIDI functionallity is working properly; it should respond to the relevant synth notes straight away... Another tip; the free Bome MIDI Translator is a very usefull tool in this whole area as it will analyse and identify incoming MIDI messages - handy for mucking with devices like MIDI foot controllers, etc that don't tell you a whole lot on their own screens...

Hope this helps, Enda
