Scenic artist Dissertation

Recommended Posts

Hey, basically I'm a scenic artist currently writing my dissertation in which I ask...

'Is advancing technology taking away the scenic artists job?'

I know the basic answer to this is no, as there will always be a designer who wants to build a set, but I want to look in to more the special effects used, projection, scanner chrome, ect.

Just wondering if anyone has any opinions on this topic and any ideas in which I have not thought about yet.

As you can probably tell I am currently at the start of this, and my knowledge is currently basic so any suggestions would be a great help.

Thanks

Carly,

Scenography isn't my area, but I do get to read a few dissertations each year.

I'm guessing you submitted a dissertation proposal? What was the methodology you chose to follow? Which references did you cite to support your initial argument? Anecdotal evidence from web discussion may be of use, I'd suggest that well researched qualitative and quantitative approaches are far better...

I would say that the basic answer is yes, though it is due to fashions in set design as well as the advances in technology. I'm sure that there are more and more projections and less and less painted drops.

But that is just my opinion based on what I see, do share the results of your research with us when you have an answer.
