mpsrdf Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Hi all Does anyone know if you can get a 12V lamp that will plug straight into a standard mains Bayonet lamp holder? Regards Rich
mutley Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I know you can get 24v lamps that do. The old central-battery emergency lighting system we had at the local theatre used them before it was upgraded to the more modern self-contained fluorescent type. One question: WHY? Could an inverter not do what you need to do?
Robin Pratt Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Try car spares/accesories shops, I think 12v 50w GLS bulbs for car inspection lamps are quite common, though I'm not 100% sure if BC or ES is the more common cap.......
emsgeorge Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Halfords do them - they have 12v inspection lamps that take them. Dont bother looking in the lamps section - go to the workshop tools bit, and they are in there. They are usually made by ring lighting. They are half the price of cpc etc.

Could an inverter not do what you need to do?conservation of energy I thinks is the posh name.If you've a 24 volt backup battery your also going to need a 24v charging circuit ,so why not make the load 24v,no need to convert back to 240v.and loose something in the convertion, and older inventors weren't the most efficient,
