johndenim Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Hi all. I have recently been doing discos, using virtual dj on the laptop.I know most about it, but can't work out how to use headphones to cue up tracks etc. I use a sound card, through opti into md, then press "record" so the data comes through and a pair of rca's into mixer. How do I monitor a track without it playing through FOH? When I plug in phones through laptop all I hear is the mix that's playing FOH. Cheers in advance.

Depending on the skin you are using, click on Config (on most skins it's top-right next to ' _ [] X ')Click on the 'Sound Card' tabSelect a configuration by clicking onthe hardware setup which best matches yours, eg; two sound cards on the left (if you use an external for FOH and on-board for cueing), and the speaker/headphones on the right. Or click on Advanced, and set each channel and output setting individually. That's the theory anyway. Whenever I try to do this on my laptop, either nothing plays at all, or everything plays via the USB sound card!! Might try a newer version to see if it's a bug with the program, or just that I can't use two sound cards simultaneously on my computer....
timtheenchanteruk Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 you can set it to 2 sound cards, then use the option of where the mix goes, I have the main mix routed thru the usb soundcard, and the phones from the laptop soundcard. also make sure the mix/prefade slider at the top of the screen is set to pre.
johndenim Posted December 22, 2008 Author Posted December 22, 2008 Cheers guys, version is 5.0.7. I had looked at the sound set up in config, but thought I need two sound cards, I forgot I have one in the laptop its self!Although not great, it will do for cueing. I'll try with the version I have, but I have another couple of versions, if it is small enough to email anyone can have it. PM me if you want. Cheers.
mervaka Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 is there not a way you can have mono FoH/Cue, if thats acceptable? just have FoH on left, and cue on right, or something.
Jivemaster Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 If you are using the software mixer you may not have access to the un selected track for cueing. Go look at www.mobiledjforums.com -you have to register but it's free. and look in the section on VDJ
