Beam Trolleys

Hi,

The company I work for wants to buy some variable speed chain hoists and some beam trolleys. About the hoists, our option is quite clear CM's fitted with the kynesis conversion kit as we would like to use them with the elevation 1+ system in conjunction with the vector software.

Now, I'm looking for beam trolleys that can be used with the elevation 1+ system as we would like to be able to make basic vertical and horizontal movements. I found the some manufacturers, but not sure if they are the right ones, I don't know if there is any entertainment industry standard trolley. Shall I assume that any trolley is compatible with the kynesis system? I hope that there is someone there who could guide me on this.

Also, is there any specific truss manufacture that supplies truss systems that can be fitted with a safe and reliable beam system for the trolleys.

Thank you for your attention.

Best regards.

I worked on a few shows of a tour called "Sinatra" last year, one of those tribute type shows where Frank Sinatra appeared in video form on a number of screens accompanied by a live band. I remember being particularly impressed at the time by the very neat arrangement of trolley beams built into custom trusses for the LED screens, which by the sound of it is exactly what you're looking for.

The Kinesys system and all the clever tracking malarky for that show was supplied by Summit Steel (A UK rigging company particularly known for that kind of thing). Chris Walker was the project manager on that particular tour (there are contact details for him on the website).

I believe the truss itself was made by Total Fabs. If so, Chris Higgs who posts here (but quite rarely these days) might be able to tell you more.

Edit:

ps: Just noticed there's a small blurb about that job on Summit's website here

Hi Seano.

Thanks for the useful link(s). We have just bought our first Kinesys system (24 units, Elevation 1's, Smart 8's, Vector and K2 software) which were used on the Kylie 'X' tour here in Oz.

This is a new learning curve for us, it's good to see what is coming out of the UK.

We use a couple of different tracking systems here in our flying rigs which are very successful, however, I wont make any recommendations / observations just yet until I have done a bit more research with both Summit and Total Fabrications as they may not be appropriate.

Have a very merry Christmas, and a safe and prosperous New Year.

Thank you very much for the information, it's been very useful. I'm already trying to get some quotes, just having a bit of hassle to find the right electric beam trolleys.

Thank you again, and looking forward for hearing from you.

Urko.
