Jamtastic3 Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 Hey I've been watching TOTP for ages now and have you notice the lighting just gets better and better?I was watchin it last week (7/01/04) and I was taken back by the amount of scans and creative cues for each song. They use less banks of parcans nowadays, shame, though they make it up for the effects of 20 odd GG3's at the back of the stage. There was one song at the begining, dance genre, that I just thought was brilliant. All kinda styles and cues I wouldve done if I were doing the design work. Mind you I still love watching the TOTP from the 80's especially around the time of the neon sets and some of the first sound-to-light and VL scans they had.Ah one day I hope to do the lighting on TOTP...... PS. Anyone who knows some of the first sound to light, moving lights they had please pass on the word!! I love the old skool lighting. Hey if it weren't for me, you'd be in the dark
gareth Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 PS. Anyone who knows some of the first sound to light, moving lights they had please pass on the word!! I love the old skool lighting. If I remember correctly, the very first moving lights on TOTP were the original Goldenscans, running on a 'bodge box' programmed by a BBC Micro. I believe the first 'proper' control system they had was one of the early Pular Masterpieces, along with some brand spanking new Goldenscan 3s. Edit : Incidentally, the old TOTP Superscans and Stagescans are currently sitting in a storeroom at Barcud Studios, Caernarfon, having finally outlived their usefulness (and, in some cases, their working life!) on a resident weekly kids' show and been superceded by some lovely new Robe heads. If anyone wants to make them an offer for some genuine telly lighting relics, I'm sure they'd be only too happy to shift them! <_<
Aevans Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 Hehe, might be worth a try.. If I ever have the space il buy myself some antiques (not forgetting the P23's & 123's I already own) Its not great not being 16 yet.. I might look into taking a 'tour' of the studio's, quite interesting in seeing the setup for a couple of shows.. Im sure they would have been chroma's of some sort, they seem the best yet.. In my opinion..
