LED PAR CAN DMX PROBLEM

I posted a thread the other day regarding ghosting and disruption within the DMX getting to a couple of my light fixtures. This has now been rectified by adding a terminator which was missing before.

On the rig I have a number of intelligent light fixtues including moonflowers, scans and moving heads. I then have 16 LED parcans. On small ones shining down the walls. Now they are slightly different in build for some reason. They are both 5 channel, but the one set has the Red Green and Blue channels on 1,2 & 3. But the others have them on 2,3 & 4. I have put both types of par cans onto two seperate DMX addresses. (so there are about 8 with DMX address 30 and another 8 on 36.) Using a masterpiece, I put all the reds into one scene, the blues in another and the greens in another and controlled them all through the scene sliders. All ok so far. I then made another 6 scenes... all red, all blue, all green, all pink, all yellow and all white. I have made various chases using the other fixtures aswell and included the LED's.

I then saved it all to a memory card, and then to the replay unit. All was working perfrect.

I have then gone back in this morning and have noticed some very strange goings on. ** laughs out loud **.

When I switch on the power to the led's, they all do their intial run through, but for some reason, some don't come on. They do when DMX is not present, but as soon as there is, they go funny.

For example...

There is one LED on one side of the room near the DJ that is currently off, and the other side of the room (which are the different DMX type) are ok. But if I turn them all on and off a few times, the one near the DJ box comes on, but the other type go off. Any ideas??

Its as iff the DMX signal isn't being recieved by some of them. Is it possible that its because so many units are using the same DMX? I can't see it being this, what do you think?

Steve.

Have you split the DMX chain like we recommended to you in your other thread?

If not you still have your rig operating at the limits of the RS485 spec, which isn't the best thing to do. Try splitting each type of fixture onto its own DMX line from a splitter.

Hi Josh.

No I didn't try splitting it as it was working perfectly after I added the Terminator. It was working perfectly yesterday. I don't know why its just started happening when it wasn't yesterday.

Anything change with the replay unit overnight?

No. Not that I know of. Noone had even been in there after I left. They were all working before I turned it all off.
