Northern Light - is it just me?

Hi all,

I'm trying to get these guys to quote for expansion of a permanent installation they've undertaken, but after three weeks of waiting for a response and getting nothing but a one line 'holding' email I've had nothing, dispite me 'nudging' them. :D Is this typical of them, or is it just me??

I'm inclined not to bother with them anymore but the site is in Scotland and specialists are few and far between up here. Unless of course anyone can recommend someone else. If you can, please let me know. I really don't want to use these people if they can't even bother to extend me the common courtesy of a note saying they don't wish to quote.

BTW, I've been to Black Light and got a quote from them in double quick time... most impressed. Unfortunately, though, due to funding requirements, I have to get three quotes. So any other recommendations gratefully recieved.

Thanks

With all due respect, if you have only emailed, the chances are that your email has gone down in the box, the second someone else has sent one.

Why don't you ring them? I bet if you do, you will find them a lot more responsive.

What kind of work needs to be undertaken?

For quote purposes you could try AC and Stage Electrics.

Can't comment on Northern as I've never dealt with them as as company.

For this next phase it's track and drapes plus some mods/extension to the lx control.

Stage Electrics? I only know of them in the south of England...do they have a northern office?

AC? Don't know of them. Do you have contact detail please. Or have I misunderstood you?

Cheers

Having dealt with NL before, I've heard that they can sometimes take their time in quoting. I would have thought that south of the border would have been best, as Blacklight and NL are the only two qualified lighting install companies in Scotland that I know of, though I'm sure someone will be more than happy to inform me if I'm wrong.

AC Lighting (ACLighting.com) and Stage Electric are both generally based in Southern England, but I've been able to get certainly Stage up here to look at a venue and quote on projects before.

I'd second the vote for Stage Electrics - very efficient, helpful and reliable. I used them for an upgrade of backstage and SM facilities at HM in Aberdeen some years ago; they gave a good quote, happily discussed ideas, provided the best reports and plans of any of the companies asked to quote (which included NL), and did a great job with minimal disruption.

At the risk of being a bit OT, what would you define as "qualified"?

Cheers,

Ross

being members of the NICEIC. I'm not saying they are the only ones in scotland that are, simply that they are the only ones I personally know of.

Membership of NICEIC is *not* a qualification.

True, but do you not have to be a qualified electrician (or have a company with suitably qualified personnel) to get membership?

You could try Audio Light Systems, based in Edinburgh and specialise in Light, Sound and AV installs for churches, Local Authorities and regional arts centres.

Or Zisys AVNM from Ayrshire who supply AV solutions and installs at a similar level.

Or, CPE Lighting from Glasgow who provide comprehensive lighting solutions.

Or, SM Lighting.......

Or...EFX (audio)

Or...Sound Acoustics

Or...Scorpio Sound

Or...you get the picture!
