Exam plays etc

I was just wondering how all those plays that were done for GCSE's etc went. I unfortunatlly did not chose drama for a option because I didn't know what you could do lights for your exam, but still got in, doing the lights for the actors.

All in all it went well except one group who forgot a page so I missed about 3 cues because I my place.

Any other contributions?

I did LD for a performance of 'Find Me' for my A-level

went really well, was chuffed with the results, although the photos and video don't do it justice - shame

Must admit was a teeny bit scared when one of the prfiles starts ticking like mad 1/2 way through the show... could have been interesting!

I have recently finished working on 3 A level pieces, 1 A/S piece and 9 (yes nine) GCSE pieces, of which I lit 10 pieces, SMed 3 and had to act in one (I know it doesn't add up, have you ever tryed SMing a show that you were forced to act in at the last minute?)

In my 5 and a bit years at secondary school I have lit going on for 100 exam pieces, short plays, or pieces of absolute rubbish. Each year about 20 groups - 13 to 16 GCSE, 2 AS and 1 A level- fun I know.

Now it is time for me to step into the examinee's shoes as I am about to take my GCSE Drama exam in lighting design - would be fine except for the presentation! I know I can do lighting design (and very well - several reviews in papaers tell me so!!!) but telling an examinor what I am doing is more difficult - also who ever heard of doing design sketches of lighting looks!!! Photos of experimentation YES but sketches - still who knows I never use them (probably because I do all of my experimenting on WYSIWYG Design - great looks at the click of a mouse!!!)

Still, some improvements have been made. The school now owns a nice 15A DMX system with Fat Frog control desks (note plural), 1 x 48 channel system and 1 x 24 channel system along with a nice lantern stock (for both spaces a stock of 100+ lanterns). DOnt you love having a school with Arts status.

Well 2 years ago we had 2 x 18 channel 5A systems with a total of... 10 lights for the pair!!!!

What are other school systems like? Comments would be appreciated!

Moderator's note : comments would certainly be appreciated - but not in this thread! The subject of this thread is "Exam plays etc" and this is the Training & Qualifications forum. If you want to start a discussion about the lighting system in your school, please do so in a new thread in the Lighting forum, and help us to keep things more or less on-topic. Thanks.

I refused to light the GCSE and AS level playes this year as I thought I had too much on my mind to worry about it. So they just got a open whtie cover for all their performances...

As it turns out I *do* have too much on my mind - and I wis I'd actually lit it - because it would have taken my attention off thinking :D
