computer Posted May 13, 2004 Posted May 13, 2004 does anyone remeber anything about a company called Teatro? I came across a box full of lots of lighting booklets by them about how to light stuff, angles, etc. but I cant find them on the net... any thoughts?
P. Funk Posted May 13, 2004 Posted May 13, 2004 teatro were a company/range of lanterns I think owned by coemar. they were discontinued some years ago if I recall correctly, due to their shiteness. and our local theatre has been stuck with a stock of teatro floods, fresnels and profiles for 10 years.. and has just been updated with some source 4s... I tried to nab the old teatros from them for school but apparently they were too unsafe to continue using...
James Posted May 13, 2004 Posted May 13, 2004 teatro were a company/range of lanterns I think owned by coemar. they were discontinued some years ago if I recall correctly, due to their shiteness. I had the use of a set of a dozen teatro tipo 1K fresnels years ago when I was at school and they served me perfectly fine as a compliment to our 16 Prelude F's AIUI there was the funding in place to purchase another 6 tipos per year until they had a full set of 24. what problems did people have with them? personaly I liked the nice smooth barn doors on them. But then again I only had them when they were brand new... James
gareth Posted May 13, 2004 Posted May 13, 2004 Their profiles were pretty 'orrible, the Parcans not much better. The fresnels are OK (no more, no less!), but their cyc floods are pretty good. Never used one of their followspots (did they ever make one?), so I can't comment on those.

TallPaul Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 We have the displeasure of owning two Teatro-Talento 1200 follow spots. A switch packed in last year and it took and age to get the parts from germany. Plus they're a pain in the ass to get balanced properly. But apart from that...
James C Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 In answer to the original question: Do they exist? My brief answer would have to be: Unfortunately, yes! Lived with them on my first job out of college. Take the build quality of the plastic knobs on an SL, divide it by the number of minuette barn doors you've ever sworn at, and you get some sort of idea!
Stu Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 Did they make the Tula 1k fresnel? Looks very much like a Starlette. But not. Anyway, they were nice, had a really smooth focus mechanism, but it seems they didn't like going full flood as you got full flood + dark spot... Stu
James Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 There was one thing I remember from their brochure, Aparently they did a lantern that could be lamped at 650W or 1Kw (If it was used for short periods only) ? I always thought that was a very risky idea, as you didn't know who would use the lantern, if they knew how short to use it for and how short is short anyway? James
Uncle Simon Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 We have the displeasure of owning two Teatro-Talento 1200 follow spots. A switch packed in last year and it took and age to get the parts from germany. Plus they're a pain in the ass to get balanced properly. But apart from that...<{POST_SNAPBACK}> We also have the deep displeasure of owning two Teatro-Talento 2400 followspots - We've been trying to get a replacement rear-lens for one of them as it shattered on hire the other day!! - Don't suppose you (or ANYONE!) has still got the contact info for spares dept in Germany? Coemar UK (L.E.D. Lites) are not very helpful.........
jamienip Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Did they make the Tula 1k fresnel? Looks very much like a Starlette. But not.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not sure to be honest, could have been a Furse product... now owned by CCT so could explain the likeness there. There are 8 or 10 Tulla Lito 1k fresnels at The Nuffield, along with 4 Tulla Lito 650w zoom profiles, they are ok as they go, the barn doors are the worst I've used, (including Strand Harmony) the 650w profiles are complete rubbish. The Teatro parcans were dire, a local company stocks them, but I've never known them go out on a job yet As for coemars, the shell of a Coemar 2k PC is quite good for airgun target practise, if nothiung else (although would recommend removing the reflector first) the gel frame holder is perfect for slotting the targets into. The Pilotta 1200 folowspot is awful to use, the dimmer / shutter is particularly rubbish, on or off being the only option, a bit of lithoplate in one of the gel frames works much better. The pivot for the yoke is below the main body of the lantern, which doesn't make spotting too easy. Are the Coemar generics still in manufacture? It's almost impossible to get the parts for a Pilotta 1200 followspot these days.
hairyswaff Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 We also have 36 teatro Fresnals, PCs and profiles in our drama school. Brought brand new in 1996 but I haven't seen since. They work well for the small space we light coming in 650w and 300w versions.
Liquid Nik Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 The only good thing I can add about Teatro gear is that it was cheap...... Crap.... but cheap !!
Darkfold Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Was it as cheap as Showtec? Thats cheap (in my book) and moderately reliable.
