blackbird Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Have you raised a bug report? And is now a good time to point you at the terms in which you downloaded ScreenMonkey?! This is a free application that has no restrictions or limitations. It is available for download here "as is", so there is no guarantee of support and you use it at your own risk. Every effort has been made to ensure that the program runs without problems. However you must be aware that if problems occur you may be on your own. When doing a show, you get the level of support you are willing to pay for, and as with most pieces of production software there will still be the odd bug which slips through any QC net (or more if you are M$) ... freeware isn't always the most robust platform. If you have had this working successfully on this machine in the past, then an emergency solution could be to roll back to a previous System restore point, to see if any service packs have interferred with its operation. Also, with anything gfx related it is always a good idea to play with the harware accel settings to see if that helps.
Olie Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Your description of the fault is too vague for me to be sure where the problem is. If the fault is internal then Screen Monkey will normally not crash, it would just simply log an error and you get a little warning icon in the bottom right. If it is actually fully crashing and closing down then this usually indicates a fault in one of the external peripheries such as DirectX codecs or device drivers. Can you send me a copy of the Screen Monkey error log. You reach it by clicking on the errors button in the settings. This will allow you to save all the errors to a file which you can email. Select the All filter to get all errors. Please email the log to support@screenmonkey.co.uk. The reason for that disclaimer is that I provide support in my spare time and so am unable to guarantee help but I will always provide help where I can.
peternewman Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 It might be worth trying the webcam on its own into VLC or something else that can display it directly, to ensure the length and use of the USB to Cat 5 adaptors isn't causing issues. It may be there is some data loss on that link which is upsetting something at the PC end. Obviously if it works it doesn't conclusively prove anything, but if it fails you've got something you need to fix first.
brema Posted December 14, 2008 Author Posted December 14, 2008 Thanks for all your help, but unfortunately I havn't spent enough time at home (outside a filtered net) to read any of the replies. Anyway, I found that auto exposure was enabled and was overcompenasting for the 500W floodlight that the stage crew had so helpfully provided causing it to lock up. I disabled that, tweaked a few settings and it ran (mostly) fine for all 8 shows. I can still send you the event log if it would be helpful.
