skivvy
Hi All! I'm in the middle of seeking out a new camera for my work. We use it to film anything from rugby to school productions. We currently have a sony hdr-fx1 and have been looking at a Canon XL-H1A or a Sony HVR-Z1E as a replacement. Just wondering if any of you guys have experience with these camera or can think or another one which would work just as well?? Many thanks! Nick S
Indeed - there comes a point where it's all apples to oranges. I'm sure I could find someone who would swear point blank you should get the Canon. Both are highly capable cameras, and to each his own... p.k.roberts
I don't know the Canon camera, but the Z1 is certainly a very capable beast and is widely used in the broadcast industry. However, it has been around a while now and is almost certainly nearing the end of it's production life. You might want to look at the newer models that are just coming along, like the Z5 for instance. A bit more sensitive and with the ability to record to a variety of media; certainly looks worth a look.
Olie
You do realize that the HDR-FX1 and the HVR-Z1E are almost identical cameras. The only major differences are continuous timecode and balanced audio inputs. If you are used to the FX1 and like it then I would say why change and get the Z1E. Any reason why you are not getting another FX1? I have used both the Z1E and the H1A and personally I prefer the picture quality of the Sony. I also find it better balanced, easier to hold and use. These are very much personal preference things though. It is always best to try them out. One thing I have found with the Z1 is that they are generally easier to hire. So if you are doing a large performance and want additional cameras it may be easier to get hold of a matched extra camera.
skivvy
Any reason why you are not getting another FX1? Many thanks everyone for your replies! I think the main reason for not looking at another FX1 is purely for the balanced audio inputs. C.
