lasvegas Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 This is only my second question but the responses were so helpful before, I thought I would turn to you all for a bit more help. I am taking an initial look at a fault on a mac 250+ that occurred last night. On power up, the unit gives a bit of a twitch in a clockwise direction and then nothing, this is looking down on to the top of the unit which is sat on its base. The display goes thru its usual stuff but stops at RST. The colour wheel also moves slowly around indefinitely. I have spotted the colour wheel movement by taking the lids off, it never actually gets to the point of striking the lamp and never completes it reset cycle. I have put the unit into test mode and, on the face of it, it all seems to be running ok, but demo mode doesn't work (which may be of no consequence). I unfortunately don't have the manual here and have very little experience of these lights. Any clues anyone? Thanks.
dunk_1984 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 If it's of any use to you, here's the manual: http://www.showlight.nl/service/handleidin...20Mac%20250.pdf

SoLiEn Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 is this when its connected to trhe desk? if so in my experience its likely u have it set in the wrong mode can u still access the menus and do the test sequence? ps am typin this one handed whilst on phone to RS so sorry for typos/ SPAG Dan

lasvegas Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 It happens whether connected to the desk or not. I actually don't have the desk here at the moment anyway. I can still access the menus and do the test sequence. A concurrent post has been automatically merged from this point on. Any suggestions anyone?
pscandrett Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Any suggestions anyone?Sounds like at least two problems... one, the feedback on the colour wheel isn't working for some reason (could be the hall sensor - see the other recent thread on a Mac 250's gobo wheel not working, it's probably the same thing); secondly, there's something wrong with the pan. Does it 'twitch' or go all the way round to the end stop and then just sit there? Either way I'd suggest that it's the pan feedback/end stop switch failing somehow, or it could be jamming. If the pan is just sitting there twitching then it could be a partially failed stepper, a break in the pan motor's wire loom, or a faulty drive chip. Difficult to be more precise, sorry! When it sits in that RST situation, try pressing the manual pan end-stop switch twice (a second or two apart). If it sort of sparks into life it's the driver/loom/stepper system for pan that's faulty somewhere. Sorry it's not a great help. I didn't know you could put it into test mode without it finishing its reset cycle... HTH

Hmm.... (borrowed from Ynot)

HTH It was possibly me who had the hall sensor fault last week on another mac 250, so I will swap the colour and gobo sensors and see if I can isolate that one, thanks. As for the feedback/endstop switch, could you tell me where that is located? Thanks for all the help so far.
