computer Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 hi, I'm looking for a sub £2000 desk, probably a Fat Frog would be a good choice, but obviously the less on the desk the more other stuff I can do! I want to control two Robe intelligent lights then some DMX dimmers. 24 channels of generic really, plus enough for at least 4 moving lights. reccomandations? looking for price comparisons from dealers as well if possible... thanks
Ike Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 Robe intelligent lights If they are intelligent wouldn't they be able to control themselves? Anyway back on topic, would you be happy with a second hand desk or do you want new?
computer Posted May 8, 2004 Author Posted May 8, 2004 you know I'm not sure the model but the Robe moving head ones.. Well I'm not sure on second hand, it depends on the price I suppose, if its a bargian.. I'm looking to buy at the end of June time, so whatevers available then..
peter Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 Try looking in our Classifieds forum for a cheap Fat Frog P
johnhuson Posted May 10, 2004 Posted May 10, 2004 You might want to have a look at Zero 88's new desk the Diablo. Although it only controls 18 generic channels, it does control up to 18 movers, at a list price of only £539 +Vat, it's got to be worth a look. Zero 88 Diablo
dave e Posted May 10, 2004 Posted May 10, 2004 ypu might be able to afford the Zero 88 illusion - its got got alot of options for both movers and generics but its at the top end of your budget. still it contains stuff like a moving light library incase you ever hired in new units etc.
Potassium Neuf Posted May 10, 2004 Posted May 10, 2004 Both the Frog series of desks and the Illusion 500 with moving light software contain a basic set of 'common fixture types'. All other fixture types are available from the Zero 88 fixture library. The latest version of the fixture library can be downloaded from the Zero 88 website, or the Frog Support or Illusion Support Forums (see links in my signature). There is also a User Fixture Type Editor utility for the PC which allows users to create or modify fixture types and then use them on the frog series or Illusion 500 desks.
Graham NZ Posted May 10, 2004 Posted May 10, 2004 The same fixture library works for Diablo as well, you just need a different upload tool. Graham
vinny baby Posted May 10, 2004 Posted May 10, 2004 you could always go with one of the ROBE consoles, they do a small selection, and really good. good thing about these is that they already have the personality installed fot the ROBE fixtures, + every other manufacturers products. Most top of the range consoles offer this, but I keep finding most dont have ROBE personalitys installed yet. its not hard to make a personallity up, but it helps when there already installed. The Fat frog would be ideal, as it has plenty of sub masters, and live generic faders. its also good to busk on, as you can operate moving lights (yokes or mirrors) live, (on the fly) as you can store presets for colours, gobos, effects, possitions ect, from the pallets function. I myself use both a Q commander, and a ROBE controll 512. The Q commander is good for intelligent lighting as its very versatile to a limit, and is easy to busk on. its no so good for generics, as it doesnt have faders, unless you buy the 16 fader remote outstation. vince
Potassium Neuf Posted May 10, 2004 Posted May 10, 2004 I've just checked the latest Zero 88 Fixture Library and it contains most of the Robe fixtures in their various operating modes giving a total of over 60 different fixture type personalities :** laughs out loud **:
