Thirdtap Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 'loI was using an online conversion program Feet and Inches Calculator to convert measurements. But I have just found out that it is not totally correct. Try typing in 32feet and convert it to metres should be 9.75m now clear the program and try 9.75m and convert it into inches and feet. Not 32 feet is it?I am aware that this measurements may have been rounded up or down but I would expect the program to give the same results both ways. So does anyone have a recommendation for a free!! online program that is better than this? Requirements for conversion from feet and inches to mm and metres and the other way round as well. Many thanks
gareth Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 Personally, I just multiply inches by 25.4 to get millimeters - seems to be accurate enough for most purposes.
Neil Frazer Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 Google does it to at least 8 decimal places. Just search for 32 feet in meters. I think this has been mentioned before but you can use google for a wide variety of conversions. you can also get definitions of words by typing Define: (insert word here).
Brian Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 Personally, I just multiply inches by 25.4 to get millimeters - seems to be accurate enough for most purposes. Not only accurate enough but the official definition. One foot is defined as 0.3048 metres, so an inch is exactly 25.4mm by law.

Guest lightnix Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 For feet/metre conversions I use multiply/divide by 0.3048, a figure etched on my brain from the early 80s when I was drawing up plans in metric (by hand) from old imperial ones.
James C Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 Google does it to at least 8 decimal places. Just search for 32 feet in meters. Very disappointed. Just searched for "32 feet in football teams" and it went all quiet on me. The answer, fact fans, is 2.90909091
