mac numbers

How do martin come to all these numbers? like the mac 500, 600, then 550, 2000? im sure there is a reason.

Then again...how do car manufacturers do the same?

I know that BMW is Digit 1 - The Model, digits 2&3 - Engine size

How do Merc, Rover, and Nissan do theirs?

Story I heard and it sound quite plausible, was that the MAC 500 & 600 got their numbers from the VL5 & 6, but with the small change to confuse everyone

 

Wash light - VL5 & MAC 600

Profile - VL6 & MAC 500

So the MAC 250 and MAC 300 are half the size/power of the MAC 500 and MAC 600 :** laughs out loud **:

And the ill fated MAC1200 was twice the size/power of the 600

The Varilite numbers are much more confusing since series 300 as well. It was all going so well until they started with the 2000 stuff.

Brighter than a 500, but not to be confused with a 600, and to leave space for 700w fixtures?

I would assume their first fixture of the range, the Mac 500 (I'm also assuming that was their first!) has a 500W lamp in. Then came the wash version which was called 600 to tie in with the style of the model names. And the rest are either half-versions (250 & 300) or other hybrids based on those original lights.

 

Probably wrong though...

but Mac 575 dosen't have the ring to it. The marketing types probably changed it down to 500.
