ekul1978
hi guys was just looking around at various types of truss (have a little bit of capitation money to spend) was just wondering if you could give me some advice on - global truss, milos truss and litec. any feedback, opinions etc would be appreciated. some of the truss would be a permanent mount for fresnels and pars etc while the rest would be for as and when we need it (but pretty much the same thing pars, profiles, fresnels etc) cheers luke
david.elsbury
If you don't know, I'd suggest getting a rigger, and someone qualified who does know about truss to spec it for you.

Chris Snow
Have used Litec QX 30 and TX 30 regularaly for a few years now, Simple enough to use and fairly cheap, subhire stock is limited but there are companies dotted around the UK, Camel in York ,Tec PA & Lighting in Nottingham, Paul James promotions in Birmingham and a few down south which I'v forgotten. Their DADO blocks are great however if you do something unusual its best to check with Litec first, like a cross with a dado in the middle has a very low rating. Have only used Global truss a few times and have found the eggs pins rather difficult to get in to the point the R clip goes in.
cedd
I'd suggest you consider a brand that a local hire company stocks. This will mean compatibility won't be an issue, you can extend your setup if needed and if any damage occurs or you need something urgently, there is somebody local who can help. ablett
We have Litec QD30 & Prolyte truss in our hire stock. As a hire / rental house, we generally prefer the Prolyte truss. We just found it more versitile for our all main requirements which is Flying PA arrays, lighting rigs, building stages, and exhibition stands etc. They have so many different product ranges to suit many applications. Also the technology, design, testing behind the Prolyte scenes is enougth to convince me, and their support is great. We Litec stuff is also pretty good , and very similar, however when we needed to subhire, generally the prolyte stuff was more available in our area, I struggled a bit to find additional Litec. Global & Milos truss I found even harder to find, but then again, ive not looked in detail. We are selling a bunch of our Litec QD30 if you're interested, PM me if you are. If you're anywhere near Exeter you could come check out some truss at our warehouse. Unfortunally our Nottingham warehouse doesnt stock any truss if you're up that way. Prolyte truss is an option well worth considering.
tokm
Have only used Global truss a few times and have found the eggs pins rather difficult to get in to the point the R clip goes inErm.. that's what your truss hammer's for . Anyways.. *Litec truss - AFM/Panalux stock it, they've got bases across the UK. *Global - Viking Stage Lighting have the F44 range*Milos - SSLD & CSR Lighting have M290/Trio STB*Prolyte - HSL have the H30 range. In regards to recommendation, it really does depend on what your putting on it, you say a 'pars, profiles, fresnels'.. what sort? 2ks Alto's, 5k arri's, 1.2kw cantata's, 500w minuette's.. A rig of one sort could weigh x number of tonne's, while a rig of another could weight as little as 100kg. Depends how many of what sort! In terms of ease of use, IMO its pretty much horses for courses. They all go together just as easily as each other to be honest, the only factors in selecting what you go for is load requirements @ what span lengths & price.. JDP
*Litec truss - AFM/Panalux stock it, they've got bases across the UK. Careful, Panalux to my knowledge only have this type of equipment in Broadcast & Event, in Greenford. Remember Panalux have acquired AFM's stock of kit, before AFM, if I remember correctly before AFM buyout it was just TV/Film stuff. Usually, if you need moving lights, truss etc you go to Greenford - with the Bristols, Waxlow Road etc of Panalux just doing the TV lights etc.
Pattern123
Prolyte, Prolyte, and Prolyte. Not the cheapest, but the best :-) The X30 will do for most applications, but if you aim to build a big trainset eventually including towers and roofsystems, spend the extra on the H30.
