Olliedem-c
Hi again folks, looking for your help again here.. I have limited space in my control room, and although I have 2 cd players and a minidisc player, their position in not really suited to theatre preformances requiring cd cues and just lighting. A guy had a show here once and he had a laptop with all the audio in a little program where he could mix cues etc.. I guess what I'm looking for is a piece of software that will act like two cd players, idiot proof and of course Cheap/Free!! Thanks, and respectOllie
Shez
SCS is inexpensive and rather good. There's a link to it in the wiki along with a discussion of various other software solutions.
gyro_gearloose
You could always give Jazler Show a look. Its completely free and it allows you to create sequences of sound files, and it can crossfade between cues
Bobbsy
SCS is , indeed, very good and not too expensive. Or, you could always try MULTIPLAY being written by the Blue Room's own David Duffy. It's currently free and very very good. Bob
kurzweil_dude
If your on a mac, I reccomend QLAB at http://figure53.com/qlab/. Free ann VERY flixible..
Swizzuk
+1 for SCS. Been using it for 3 years now, along with a Presonus Firepod. Bang for buck you cannot beat it! (IMO)
Jerome
ile back up that for SCS... used it once as a novice and was brilliant. I liked th fact you could set the levels first on the software so you didn't have to do much with the desk itself. If your a little more daring sound forge is also good, im excpecting many to say im wrong but never done anyone at college any harm. GridGirl
Another vote for Sound Cue System - we use it daily and it serves us very well. We ran multi-track backing tracks off it last summer (and will be doing so again shortly) without a single glitch. It means we don't have to touch levels on the desk, easy to alter cues, and generally very user-friendly. If you're a Mac person, QLab is worth looking into. boswell
Another vote for SCS, very quick support if required, Multiple outputs, ASIO, Midi I/O, Video, Cheap Multiplay is free but developement/support is slow and not as feature rich as SCS
neilalexrose
CSC also do a free version of their show control software (google for CTR electronics), that outputs limited midi commands, and stereo audio (as opposed to 4 channels of audio). Their interface also allows you to set I think its up to 8 wav files going at once. Fairly simple interface, press the add cue button to add a cue, then edit wav's etc. I only suggest it as I've just finished touring with it, and fancied learning it to see if it would work for me on panto. Quite a few touring shows are now using CSC so I'm told. To get the free version, download the latest version (2.5) and install. The free option comes when you run the program.
