Andy Mel
Hi Guys, does anyone know of any cheap DMX decoders to easily adapt for use with early optikinetics club strobeflowers? The ones opti offer are very overpriced to acheive 2 channels of control so any ideas are welcome - basically each unit requires 2 channels of analogue control on a stereo jack input which I would like to be able to control without using the opti controller. The units do have an accessory outlet on the side which may well be able to be used to power the adapter - has anyone else tried this or seen similar? Many thanks Andy
tvi675
I've been having a trawl around the net trying to find a manual or something saying how the analogue control on them actually works, but it's drawn a blank :) Is is just 2 channels of 0-10v control? dbuckley
Many strobes that have a jack input socket will fire on a 10V pulse, but some desks and demux unints dont have a fast enough risetime to qualify as a "pulse"; one needs to suck it and see. The showtex / botex / whoever demux will fire some strobes, but not others. My homemade demux breakout box with homemade integrated pulse reshaper will fire any strobe known to mankind with a 10V input socket, its pulse has a risetime of about 10ns! tvi675
This page - http://www.chaosillumination.co.uk/strobeflowers.htm - would appear to be useful. One thing to note from it though is that the accessory outlet on the strobeflowers is only powered when the beam motor is powered. Depending on how complex a controller you want, it shouldnt be too hard to build something that does the job!
smalljoshua
dbuckley. Could you possibly post a schematic on your website? Josh
dbuckley
Download a zip with schematic, bill of materials, and PIC processor code here. A pic? Yeah, its easier to do four comparitors and a pulse generator in software than solder stuff up...
smalljoshua
Thanks. That could come in handy soon for the School show. Josh
Andy Mel
Thanks Matt / David, ideally I'm after a unit that would be local to the light - hence the use of the accessory power, and ideally an off the shelf solution! My electronics knowledge is rubbish when it gets to component level! I'm quite surprised that there isn't a cheap strobe adaptor on the market.. Thanks again Andy
tvi675
There do seem to be some cheap(er!) adapters but the strobeflowers require 2 channels of control, one for the lamp and one for the beam. Using the accessory outlet on them would be pointless as the unit would only be powered when the beam motor was active. Is hiring an option?
