SoLiEn
having just taken delievery of a Haulotte Star 10 at work, management decided to spend a bit of extra dosh and actually do the relevant traning for every full time tech, which is quite nice of them. we now are all qualified due to the IPAF course, (International Powered Access Foundation) with a PAL (Powered Access License) anyone else done it? or going to do it? if so, what was your course like, would be interesting from my point of view to know how the basics of the course differ from place to place if at all! thanks,Dan
Simon Lewis
Dan, I think IPAF tend to keep the courses pretty much the same - otherwise there would be the accusuation that not all trainers / training courses / IPAF ticket holders were at the the same standard. There's taught theory and a paper test in the morning, following their curriculum. After lunch there's a guided inspection, a practice run around the obstacle course and then an assessed drive around the course. Simon
SoLiEn
I know the basic course content must be the same, to keep standards uniform, was just interested in other peoples experiences from the course.

mar
I took the 1a test yesterday for the new static lift we have access to. We hope to upgrade ours to include 1b so we can 'borrow' the static boom our Estates department has. The instructor was very good, the test was mostly common sense (almost all of us would have passed that part before the theory) and as we only have a static lift the practical test was pretty simple. csml
Did mine about 3 years ago in Stoke-on-Trent. Sounds pretty much like everyone else's experience, theory paper in the morning (which everyone passes!) followed by inspection and demonstration of equipment in the afternoon, together with 15 - 20 minutes on each type of lift. You are then given a typical task for each equipment (ie: gain access to a roof or a streetlamp) and are watched by the instructors. After that, you have a mugshot taken and your card is sent to you within the week. All in all, the best fun I've had with my trousers on in years!!
