Tim Edwards
I think the OP was asking when the case is on its wheels which orientation is the Mac 500 in... If I'm correct then the head is pointing down...
SoLiEn
Head pointing Down, with one of the handles on the base near the hinges, the other near the butterfly catches on the case, i.e. the length of the base runs the width of the Flightcase. Dmx512
The fixture is well packed with the foam inserts when cased so does not matter which way up you have the box for transportation Dave.......... www.q-lights.co.uk
prs999
sorry for the confusion, I am referring to the tilt of the actual head, is the lens pointing vertically down in the case or is it pointing horizontally across, it doesn't really matter in relation to the lamp but the head and therefore the case is a lot higher if its vertical
LXbydesign
???? The lens is pointing down to the bottom of the flightcase when in transit , regardless which ever way the flightcase is packed but if you really want to pick hairs then actually the lens is facing up regarding its orientation in terms of the actual fixture. What difference does it make? ** laughs out loud ** When its in the box , lid closed - thats it!! Job done. Lens up or down! Edited for re-thinking about the answer but cant make it any clearer!! prs999
Its to do with the size of the case, the heads are considerably taller if the head is tilted vertically up (assuming the unit is sat on the floor) so the orientation of the head makes a difference to the size of the case, if it sits vertically then it won't fit in the car, if it sits horizontally it probably will
gyro_gearloose
Well whichever way the lens is facing, the flightcase may not fit in your car anyway unless you take the cases wheels off... (Assuming you do what almost everyone does and have one flightcase for a pair of Macs. A single flight case would have to go on its side to fit in your car.) Ynot
Its to do with the size of the case, the heads are considerably taller if the head is tilted vertically up (assuming the unit is sat on the floor) so the orientation of the head makes a difference to the size of the case, if it sits vertically then it won't fit in the car, if it sits horizontally it probably willI too am rather bemused at the question... In EVERY flight case for Macs I've ever seen from 250's up to 700's the lens has ALWAYS pointed down into the foam case. However, that, as has already been stated, is totally irrelevant, as far as I can see... It matters not at all what way the lens is pointed during carriage - ten to one the case will be flipped on it's side during transit anyway for deliveries. So all you need to do is decide whether it'll fit in your vehicle one way or another - you have a choice of 3 (maybe 4) orientations of the case at the end of the day. The lantern won't care which you use!!
prs999
Thank you, question answered, just to clear things up, I have the external dimensions of the flight case and the only way I'm going to get the number of cases I need to in my car is to remove the wheels and put them upright but they are very slightly too tall so I will have to slightly adapt them to get them in, if the unit sits so the head is paralell to the base then they are shorter therefore there is space inside the case to shrink the lid slightly to fit them in the car, if they are vertical (head perpendicular to the base) then there won't be enough free space in the case to make it a little smaller Probably seems longwinded and painful to most but its the easiest way I can do it on my budget Thanks for your help
niclights
Rather than go through all that hassle why not just put them in your car without cases? Easier and certainly cheaper!
Sound In Gloucestershire
you are going to adapt the cases??? why not just get some custom ones made?
