Martin Mac 300 Pan and Tilt Issue

Dear BR Members,

Mac 300, Version 1.5. On start up, have a FBER. Sensor's all check fine. But, the Tilt Motor seems to be weak, and can't handle the weight of the fixture. So attempts the reset, and just keeps failing.

Pan on the other hand, has resistance even when the unit is switched off. Once Reseting, the Motor is erractic. Meaning a Chip failure, but I have replaced both chips and the cables arn't shorting. Both Motors are fine, can feel that. Still, I am pondering what the problem may be, Any help will be awesome.

Flipped the connections on the PCB, and it's just the opposite. Both Fail. All Fuses are fine, and tension and quality of the belt is fine.

Rob :P

If you ask Martin technical nicely they will sell/give you a small gadget to that tests the output on the stepper motor driver chips, (it's a bank of four LED's wired to a plug) Not sure if this will help but I have seen similar problems before and it turned out to be a small diode that protects the driver chip but you will have to get a circuit diagram from martin to know A: if your board uses these and B: where they are to test them.

Both pan and tilt feedback circuits are malfunctioning. I have had a simlilar problem and was advised to reinstall the software as a quick fix. Or alternitivly perform a hrad reboot. Both of these functions should be covered in the manual, avalible from the martin website. www.martin.dk

Thank you both, I am aware of the Driver Chip Tester, and might be a way of going ahead. I have also re-installed the firmware, and also conducted a hard boot and I still get the same output with the Motors. Think I may need to piece the Poor thing back together and send it to Martin for an inspection. It may be something more than the chip malfunctioning. Still I am servicing the unit, and the Pan & tilt were inactive when I recieved the unit from a Club, the new chips have made the motors work, but the problem is still there and I can't see anything Burn't or blown on the PCB. I just hope I don't require a new PCB (£500)

Cheers,

Rob

Hi Rob,

I think I had a similar problem with a 250, I found it was the sensor looms both had 1 core not bleeping out on a meter.

As I fix a few movers I ended up buying a cheap RJ45/11 tester from maplins and made some leads to test the looms.

Hope this helps.

Craig
