ebbsplyer
So I was programming a show with effects yesterday, and between when I switched from one effects cue to the next, the last step that I hit the go key on, would stick into my next cue, when I did not program it like that. When I look at the times it says DHOLD. Which is not what I need it to do. I Need it to switch my cues completely. We are using a ETC insight 3. Any advice? Thank you! Quarterfront
So I was programming a show with effects yesterday, and between when I switched from one effects cue to the next, the last step that I hit the go key on, would stick into my next cue, when I did not program it like that. Andy I don't know the Insight system, but I program on an Expression 3. What you're describing sounds like what normally happens in Expression 3 when you have an effect cue running and then trigger another cue (effect or otherwise). There are a couple of ways of making it do what you want. One way is that you make the channels that you're using in your effects LTP via the Channel Attributes submenu in Setup. This will allow the effect channels to continue being controlled by the effect until you run a cue where they're specifically told to move (as opposed to having a level that's just tracking through). This has some downsides - particularly in tech when you need to stop, go back and start a series of cues again. You'll want to make friends with "Background Overrides". The better, more elegant way is to program effect submasters instead of writing effect cues. You create the effect on a submaster, give it an up time and a down time and set the dwell to "hold". Then you trigger the effect by linking a cue to a macro. You write a cue where you want the effect to run, key in [Link][Enter Macro][Macro#]; and you make that macro read [OnBump Sub X]. To make the effect end you do the same with a macro that reads [OffBump Sub X]. By putting the effect on a sub you get around the issues involved with LTP channels, and your effect is a resource you can plug in anyplace in the show. The effect fades in/out at the speeds you assign to the submaster. (If you know exactly how long you want the effect to run you can give the effect a dwell time and it will OffBump itself at the end of the dwell, eliminating the need to do a cue linked macro to "OffBump"). Remember that subs are pile-on so you're dealing with HTP. Hope this applies to Insight, otherwise I've just wasted a bunch of your time.
Tomo
Insight and Expression 3 run exactly the same software - the only difference is that Insight has more faders! Thanks very much for your explanation.
Trunker
This happens on the Express too. The way I have got round it is to put a point cue in between i.e. 7 - 7.5 - 8 as a blackout and put an automatic run on time as 0.3 seconds. This usually gets round it and isn't really noticable. ebbsplyer
Thank you everyone. I the point cues seemed to work out really well. I appceriate the insight. (bad joke)regards,Andy
