Blaize110
I need to make a set of DIN cables. I have had no trouble sourcing the connectors form Farnell however I have become confused about the 8 core cable I need. The one I am looking at is AWG26 (http://uk.farnell.com/4351605/cable/product.us0?sku=nexans-meplat-awg26-8x0-12-100m-iv). Would this be thick enough for me to solder the stripped ends onto the connectors without the risk of them breaking on a regular basis or do I need a thicker/thinner wire?I have looked at this one because A: it is black and B: it is good value for the 100m as they are discontinuing the reel. And is there anything else I should be aware of? (Blueroom being the vast wealth of knowledge it is)
musht
CSA of 0.12mm is pretty darn thin, from mechanical strength point pf view something a bit thicker would be nice, more concerned that the outer jacket is reasonably tough. Cat 5 STRANDED , also known as patch, cable is 8 core cheap , useable for DMX also and available in a rainbow of colours , black being about hardest to find. Jivemaster
DIN midi is straight through, DIN audio is crossed over.
bruce
I would guess that since he's looking for 8 core, it's DIN analogue lighting control....
Blaize110
Yeah, its for a small lighting rig im putting together. DIN allows me to quite easily make my own chaser and effects units. Thanks musht for the Cat5 info. Does anyone know where I can get 50/100m of Cat5 quite cheaply (preferrably in black)?
musht
Cat5 stranded, install cable is solid core, patch or stranded is specifically what you want, on Google, 305m is standard box BTW which is 1000 feet, shorter lengths, 75m 20 quid, dunno about colour: http://www.morecomputers.com/extra.asp?pn=A7J304-250 Of course to make sure your analogue control arrives in the best condition use a decent cable :-), read the reviews: http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AKDL1-Dedicate...e/dp/B000I1X6PM
