Andrew C Posted April 27, 2004 Posted April 27, 2004 Our H&S consultants have flagged up forthcoming changes in the way buildings are to be assessed. The new 'Fire Safety Order' (FSO), which will affect businesses in England and Wales, is due to be published shortly and come into force in 2005. It will bring together and simplify over 100 pieces of fire legislation. Separate orders will be made at a later date to cover Scotland and N. Ireland. All employers will be covered by the new order as will anyone with a responsibility for a building to which the public have access, voluntary organizations and the self-employed. The person responsible for complying with the FSO will be the 'employer in control of the workplace'. I'm afraid it will be another "risk based", "self-assessed" piece of buck-passing. Fire Certificates will be abolished by 2005. The consultative document, issued in 2002 can be found here.
