Equipment Labels

Hi BlueRoom

I have just started buying some equipment of my own and I was wondering what other people have on their equipment labels? Weather people just had a barcode and number or logo and phone number etc.. or even this item is owned buy (company name) for support ring (phone number)?

Please give me ideas, I do like the idea of either a logo or the company name and defiantly individual numbers.

All ideas will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I have the following:

On hire from:

Robert Oxlade

Lighting and Sound Services

My Mobile

My Email

My Website

I had the labels made up by Vine Lodge Products here.

About £13 for 500

I also use red and white insulating tape, although after 9 years, some of it is falling off and in need of replacement!

Edit: updated link, and to add that I print my own PAT labels, and some items have barcodes.

At work all of the equipment has 2 things, an ID label with a barcode, readable number of the barcode our web address very small, this is used for PAT testing and potential equipment tracking it is approx 5mm x 15mm. The other in big letters has the Company name, logo, telephone number and web address this is approx 40mm x 20mm. For each of the above we also have cable wrap versions which have a clear sticky bit which sticks back to itself.

Each cable is then identified for length with different colours of leci tape.

Hi Colin,

Out of interest, where do you get your barcode cable labels, (the wrap around ones) made?

THanks

For equipment, we generate our own stock codes for various products, so they can be uniquely identified.

For cables though, there is an easily identified labeling system.....

LSL BM03 = Balanced mic 3m

LSL BM06 = Balanced mic 6m

LSL 16A-25 - 16A 25m extension

LSL SPK4-20 = 4 way Speakon 20m

etc, etc.

It's really useful. All labels are printed on a Brother P-Touch 1000.

Erm, is it really neccesary to denote "balanced" mic? Do you carry any unbalanced mic cables, and if you do would they use the XLR-3 connectors?

It's so the numpty's can tell the difference between Audio XLR's and 3 pin DMX cables, especially when out on a dry-hire.

We also have a couple of DMX signal invert leads, on 3 pin XLR's as well.

Resurrecting an old thread. What do people use to write on their PAL labels and more importantly what do they use to remove it after the job? We are finding it difficult to find the correct combination of writing and removal techniques.

It needs to be cheap (we have a lot of boxes), the removal method needs to have no PPE requirement (all of the 'Sharpie' removal chemicals we have found require gloves as they are classed as ‘Harmfull’) any ideas?

I've never had any trouble removing sharpie with meths and a bit of elbow grease.

Ultra Fine Point Sharpie and IPA from CPC. We apply the IPA with a little trigger spray bottle and use a stockinette cloth to wipe it off. Most of the time it's short duration hires and cleaned off before going back on the shelf so getting stained in isn't an issue.

Using the fine and medium tip sharpie, the ink seems to stain a bit more, but a second spray of IPA seems to shift it. I think it must be a solvent thing, because IIRC, using IPA on PAL pens doesn't work, same for PAL Clean on the sharpies.

Could always use Lynx Deodorant to clean the sharpie off....
